KS3 Maths: Translations race track
Simple intro to translations. Describe movement of car around track using translations. Draw own track and do the same. Promethean flipcharts (old and new versions) and worksheet.
Make 2-D shapes from missing coordinates
Find the coordinates that creates the required shape - some of the problems have more than one answer. Others (assuming you use integer values and stay on the grid) do not. Various triangles, square, parallelogram, rhombus, trapezium.
Final page to identify given shapes - named, congruent, enlargement.
Draw and interpret conversion graph - miles to km
Scaffolded worksheet asking students to find 4 points, plot these on a conversion graph of miles to km and then use the line to convert 4 other values.
(10/2/14) Two further examples added. (12/7/16) Answers uploaded
Mixed questions on area of basic shapes
Areas of rectangles, triangles, parallelograms and trapezia. Fairly straight-forward questions on area (or using area to find missing sides). Multichoice - so can be used with flash cards.
Balancing equations demo
Visual of seesaw showing how to keep simple equations balanced while solving. 2 quick examples, but it should be easy to create more by copying and amending slides.
Sequences - using/finding nth term - scaffolded
Use nth term rule and find nth term for linear expressions (2-sided worksheet for each). Worksheets scaffolded. First with missing terms and second to find multiplier and difference between that times table and the sequence given.
Not a lot different to exercises in books but hopefully attractive and less intimidating (limited number of questions!) for a lower ability group.
(12/7/16) Answers uploaded for finding terms worksheet
Summary worksheet for y=mx+c
Worksheet to complete topic (or as homework). Identify gradient/y-intercept from 3 equations and 3 graphs; sketch 3 graphs using y=mx+c.
Rounding - dec. places, sig figs and estimation
Structured worksheets on decimal places and significant figures. Plus similar style sheet (with less scaffolding) for estimating using 1 significant figure. (d.p. worksheet added 28/1/13)

Rounding rally coach
Partners take turns to coach each other in rounding numbers to required decimal places or significant figures.
Parallel lines & angle facts quiz
20 quick questions on angles (largely) in parallel lines. Emphasis on use of correct terminology. Could be done on mini-whiteboards, or otherwise as quiz, rather than flashcards.
y=mx+c match cards
Nine sets of cards to match with graph, equation and pair of coordinates. 4 with same gradient, 3 same intercept, two negative gradient. 3/4/14 I've recently uploaded a PowerPoint on the same topic as a separate resource
Indices, powers, roots
Fairly basic set of 15 Qs to be used with flashcards, whiteboards etc. Covers integers with indices and algebraic expressions. Add/subtract rules. Useful as revision or building up to add/sub simple powers.
Next term in sequence using flashcards
10 questions. Quick, multiple choice, summative quiz. Can use coloured flash cards or whiteboards to get responses. Mainly simple linear, but also geometric and squares to finish.
Maths: Percentage increase and decrease
Quick, multiple choice, summative quiz. Can use coloured flash cards or whiteboards to get responses. Reverse percentage to finish.
Maths: Negative calculations using flashcards
10 questions. Quick, multiple choice, summative quiz. Can use coloured flash cards or whiteboards to get responses.
Deal or No Dealgebra
Quiz, loosely based on Deal or No Deal. #1 has brackets but easier numbers; #2 has (simple) algebraic fractions; #3 negative and decimal answers.
The player has an amount of money. The boxes contain algebraic expressions that say what that box is worth. So, if the player has £100, 2x+50 gives a box value of £250.
It could equally be played as a quiz between two teams or individual players trying to get the highest value box.
Original idea inspired by CrazyTalk clips on YouTube linked by Keith Ennis.
Depreciate my Ferrari!
Percentage increase and decrease. Table for depreciating a Ferrari over 5+ years. (10/2/14) Second worksheet added with similar compound interest example.
Increase by 20% VAT QQT cards
16 percentage increase problems based on 20% VAT. Originally designed as Quiz-quiz-trade cards.
QQT - Everyone has a card. Form pairs. Person A asks Person B what the price of an item is after VAT increase. If Person B unsure, then Person A uses the coaching hints to help guide Person to the correct answer. The Person B repeats process on Person A. (The Quiz-Quiz part.) Now the pair exchange cards and go off to find new victims ;) (The Trade part).
[25/1/16. Grammar corrected!]
Maths Percentage bubbles worksheet
Triangle layout with clear, logical structure. Originally seen in Shahira Ibrahim's resource. Set of six blank triangles to use on one page.
Interior and exterior angles worksheet
Simple complete the table and answer a few questions exercise.
