A staff meeting regarding enjoyable activities to teach spelling, punctuation and grammar.
This pack provides all resources needed for an hour-long staff meeting about activities to use in class for teaching spelling, punctuation and grammar. Your staff team will look at examples of SPaG questions from SATs, reflect about the SPaG requirements for their year group and how they have been covered, complete a grammar terminology activity, take part in whole group grammar activities and then try out several fun grammar activities on their tables. I delivered this meeting to a large staff team and received a round of applause!

I have led English successfully in several schools. This document is an example of an action plan for leading English in primary, which would be useful for English subject leaders. Included are ten objectives for improving both progress and attitudes to reading and writing and 100 strategies for achieving these objectives.
This resource consist of 200 alien word flashcards to use in preparation for the phonic screening check. The words reflect the phonics content in the current national curriculum, and the graphemes which have appeared on previous papers, including oe, au, e-e, ore, ie and ue. These flashcards can be used for teaching and also for sharing with parents. The resource is fully editable and the images are copyright free. I have led English in several primary schools and had a positive impact on improving both reading results and attitudes to reading. Strategies for this have included whole school initiatives, providing training for staff and organising exciting book weeks. This document contains 100 ideas for improving reading standards and encouraging a love of reading in primary schools. This resource consists of a PowerPoint presentation with four supporting word documents for an hour-long training session on methods for teaching reading.

- an activity in which staff attempt to decode five mystery texts
- discussion of diagrams which show the skills used for reading
- a task to match activities to reading skills

- an opportunity for teachers to reflect on the provision for reading in their own classrooms.

This resource pack consists of a thirteen page PowerPoint presentation and a twelve page supporting resource pack for a fun day’s worth of pseudo word activities in preparation for the phonic screening check. Children will need to work as a team to complete eight challenges which include: word orbit game, syllable switch, split digraph countdown and many more. This resource has been tried and tested and the children loved it! This resource consists of a PowerPoint presentation with ten punctuation and grammar activities reflecting the spelling, punctuation and grammar requirements from the year 2 curriculum for English: capital letters, full stops, question marks, exclamation marks, time conjunctions,
compound sentences, subordination, apostrophes for possession, noun phrases and commas in lists. These activities are based on an animal theme and each one lasts for 5- 15 minutes.
