Elizabeth England war with Spain 1585-1588

Why did relations worsen between Elizabeth and Spain 1585-1588? Pupils complete a 16 mark question on their knolwedge up to 1585 (also in this download). This enables recap and discussion to start this lesson off. Then some teacher talk with ppt to tell the next part of the story and then worksheet tasks to help them learn more and consolidate the story. The next lesson after this would be the Spanish Aramada.

card sort starter Elizabethan England

A card sort I use after covering all of Key topic one and most of Key topic two of the spec. I print it off and get pupils rather than cutting out etc (takes too long) to highlight / colour / or use symbols to match up the questions to the answers. Really quick easy, recall technique and aids discussion before delving into the lessons objective.

Early Elizabethan England end of unit assessment

(0)
An assessment I give at the end of teaching the Edexcel Elizabethan England unit. I have also included a whole class feedback sheet which I give to the pupils when I have marked everyone’s tests. This is obviously adaptable and just there as an example. The choice of questions means the test is accessible to those who maybe have a busy end of term and not a lot of time fore revision. It is good practice for the mock exams and real exams in year 11.

Elizabethan Education and Leisure worksheet

A very basic worksheet that goes with the Edexcel GCSE Elizabethan England textbook. Usually running out of time to cover content by the time we are covering this so this is designed to be completed in class and then the rest at home, and gives pupils a sound understanding of the basics of Elizabethan education and Elizabethan leisure time.

Work booklet full of tasks on the Battle of the Somme. video listening task to start, source analysis task. Key question around does Haig deserve his nickname “Butcher of the Somme” or not. Pupils need to use the evidence to reach and justify a conclusion. Higher abilities will use more sources to do so, but lower ability will still be able to complete this work and come to a decision.
