Stuart Economy: Cloth Trade and London Expansion - Double Lesson Pack for A-level

(0)
There are some aspects to the new Edexcel A-level course covering Stuart Britain which are a little dull. These two lessons are designed the make the content a little more engaging! In lesson one, students work as candidates for the apprentice to pitch an idea for a cloth trade business. It's brilliant for independent learning! The second lesson explores the economic importance of London during the 17th century. Images have been acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for re-use". The homework extract is taken from Yale University's Open Courses. Any questions please do contact me via twitter! My students loved these resources and I hope you do too!

In this hour long lesson students explore the key changes introduced by Charles I and Laud. The use information from David Starkey and a range of posters to explore the key alterations. Essay technique and modelling concludes the lesson. My students follow the Stuart A-level from Edexcel. This lesson could be further supported by the Edexcel Pearson textbook but does not require it. Comments are appreciated. Images have been acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for re-use".

In this lesson students explore the religious context behind Stuart rule. Students begin by exploring the religious impact of the key Tudor monarchs before exploring how different people viewed religion during the 1600s. Students take on the role of characters to explore people's thoughts, feelings and ideas. Homework task provided. Enough resources here for an hour's lesson. Comments are appreciated. History Classroom Display Materials

I've used these resources to create a "History of the World" display and a giant "Lego Timeline". All you need is some backing paper and ideally a world map. These materials were used to make the display shown in the photograph assigned to my TES shop. Images acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for re-use".

Transformation of Surgery GCSE - 2 lesson pack!

(0)
These lessons were designed as an introduction to the Surgery unit for Edexcel but could easily be adapted for other exam boards. Students explore how surgery has changed using source images and consider how Blood, Infection and Pain could affect surgery. The lessons have relevant resources for both teacher and students and should explain themselves. There are links here to the documentary "Blood and Guts: A history of surgery" but these don't have to be used. You could also support these lessons with the blue and white Dawson textbook or the Edexcel endorsed brown textbook (2013) edition. What big issues affect the world today? Campaign for poverty, child soldiers, slavery.

(0)
In this lesson students explore some of the big issues that affect our world today. Students are encouraging to think about what wealthy countries can do to support and tackle these issues such as: child soldiers, modern slavery and torture. After exploring some of the issues students are encouraged to design a campaign in order to raise awareness. I have attached some example work in a photograph here. Great for the end of term or form time! Pictures acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for re-use". Enjoy!

KS3 Assessment - Women campaigning for the vote. Double lesson pack!

(0)
This is a KS3 assessment planned for Y8 students. Students are presented with two sources and they are expected to draw out similarities and differences in order to assess how far the sources agree. Excellent preparation for GCSE and beyond! Video clips are built in, so that students can recap knowledge. This should take place after contextual lessons about the Suffragettes and Suffragists. Any questions please comment :-) Images have been acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for reuse".

How democratic was the UK/Britain in the 1800s? Two hour long lessons!

(0)
In this lesson students begin to explore people's rights, these two lessons were designed to support a new topic on campaigning for rights. In the first lesson students are encouraged to explore the nature of democracy in Britain during the 1800s. In the second lesson students look at who could and couldn't vote using a series of characters. A video clip about human rights through time is embedded. The first lesson will require the red SHP textbook "Re-discovering Britain 1500-1750" page 86 for the main task. Otherwise all required sheets are attached. Comments are appreciated.

Finding God or the Good in all things historical (created for activity week)

(0)
This resource was planned for a 1 hour and 30 minute session during an Activity Week during the Summer Term. The theme was based around "Finding God in all things" but the resource could easily be adapted for a secular purpose. During the session, students research a historical figure or event and research who, what, why, when, how. The students are then tasked with creating a video about their research on ipads (if available in your school) or on their smart phones. There's plenty to do here and a lesson plan for the teacher. Great for independent learning and would easily work for an introductory lesson during taster days or introductory weeks. Use the comment feature below to ask questions. Origins of the Cold War Revision Tarsia Puzzle

(0)
This Tarsia puzzle covers the theme of the Origings of the Cold War. Great for 9-1 GCSE revision and intervention sessions. Made for Edexcel Paper 2 Topic 1 but I'm sure it fits other exam board specs. A Tarsia puzzle requires students to match up sides of triangles to form a hexagonal shape. They are brilliant for revision and get students to think hard. I use these at the starts of ends of lessons and they can take 10-20 minutes depending on your class's confidence in the material. All materials are provided here including student instructions, student puzzle pieces and teacher answers. All images have been acquired through a search engine filtered to labelled for re-use. Was defeat of the Spanish Armada, England's finest hour?

In this lesson students take on the viewpoint of the famous Tudor and Stuart historian: David Starkey. Students use their own knowledge and a provided card sort to challenge Starkey's view. This lesson was designed for KS3 but I have used variants of it for GCSE and even A-level. I absolutely love this lesson and so do the students. I always try to sell the idea that we are going to post our responses to Starkey in attempt to get a reply. All images acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for re-use". This lesson should be taught after students have researched the initial conferences in the 1940s. In this lesson students recap the events of the conferences at Tehran, Yalta and Potsdam. They then begin to consider the impacts of the development, testing and use of the atomic bomb. Plenty here to keep students busy and 2 video clip links are included to extend student understanding. Taught as part of the Edexcel History 9-1 course.
