This is a colourful, engaging and detailed unit of work designed for S1/2. The unit is predominantly PP led with lots of exciting and inspiring tasks throughout. There are also numerous additional worksheets and examples short stories attached; the PowerPoint informs you if and when you should use them. This is a complete unit of work to support the study of Scottish novel, “The Haunting of Jessop Rise,” which was shortlisted for The Scottish Teenage Book Trust in 2016. The unit of work contains a variety of resources and materials including: listening activities, creative writing, RUAE, characterisation resources and much more. There is also a Critical Essay plan with guidance at the end of the unit.

This is a concise unit of work based on the dramatic adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, by Phillip Pullman. It is designed for use with S1/2. The unit has a focus on RUAE, rather than dramatic conventions, although there is some consideration of stage directions within the questions. The unit is comprised of the following: a pre-reading PowerPoint which introduces the Gothic genre and the historical context of the text, a printable unitof work which includes a quiz, questions on each of the acts, amongst some other activities. There is also an end of unit discursive writing task at the end of the unit. This would probably last 2-3 weeks.

This unit of work looks at the fairytale genre in comparison to the animated movie, Shrek. There are lots of fun activities relating to the Fairytale genre as well as a focussed study of the film itself.

Unit of work designed to support the teaching of “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen. This is a write on unit suitable for National 4 pupils, or for S1/2, with a focus on RUAE. There are also numerous extension tasks within the unit, with a supplementary and optional creative writing task called “Staying Alive”. These grids have been designed to be used in conjunction with the 2015 and 2018 SQA Past Papers for John Byrne’s, “The Slab Boys,” Both grids support the pupils’ ability to answer language questions ( amongst others) by focussing their thinking so as their answer is in line with what appears on the marking scheme. I made this resource as some pupils were struggling to identify and analyse the language techniques apparent in the characters’ dialogue . Each grid also includes help and guidance with answering the 10 mark question, with room on the sheets to complete each question.

2 assessments based on the non-fiction passage “Urban Fox” and the short story “The Lighthouse” by Agnes Owens. These can only be used once the teacher has taught Active Literacy strategies to the class. A basic Active Literacy PowerPoint, which takes you through the strategies, has also been provided and can be adapted to suit multiple texts. Both texts have been included.

This is an example essay based on a “character changes” type essay question which can easily be adjusted to fit a theme" style question, i.e the theme of Growing Up. Essay has excellent analysis with explicit links to the question made throughout. Suitable for N5/6 / GCSE. I have also included a detailed paragraph plan for a Theme style essay, focussed on the Theme of “Growing Up”.

A short but useful PowerPoint which looks at the use of colour and lighting in Home Alone, with a focus on the abundance of red and green and the purpose of this. The PP takes pupils through a few frames with guided questions and then asks them to write a detailed paragraph explaining their understanding of colour and lighting as used in the movie.

Remote Learning Unit of Work. Looking for a concise and comprehensive unit of work to fill a couple of weeks? This unit of work was originally designed by myself as a resource suitable to be used as cover work - (work should take roughly 2 weeks to complete).
