A lesson that explores: why Black History Month exists (and why ‘White History Month’ doesn’t) videos, worksheets and activities focussing on six key people/moments in black history (Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou, Barack Obama, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and the Slave Trade)

A lesson resourced designed for Black History Month around the theme of fighting for equality. The lesson includes: Discussion/information/video about the 1968 protest when Tommie Smith and John Carlos did the black power salute Resources relating to Colin Kaepernick and the ‘Take A Knee’ protests and the Nike advert.

This resources raises awareness of the achievements of Black British people. Posters with information about 30 different heroes can be placed around school. Students then need to find the posters and, using their answer sheet, write in the names Resources includes people like: Baroness Rosalind Howells (Labour member of the House of Lords) Wilfred Wood (Bishop of Croydon from 1985 to 2003, the first black bishop in the Church of England) Benjamin Zephaniah (A British writer who was included in The Times list of Britain’s top 50 post-war writers) Mary Seacole (Funded her own trip to Crimea in 1854 to nurse wounded British soldiers on the battlefield)
