Cell Memory Game Color

(0)
This is a color memory game focused on cells. Students need to match the picture and word with the definition. This is an excellent PAP or AP Biology activity as well. Cell organelles, states of osmosis, four eukaryotic kingdoms, two prokaryotic kingdoms and specialized cells are covered. There are 42 pairs for a total of 84 cards. You can make smaller games to best suit your class needs. It can also be used to make studying flashcards. The cards are square and saved as a pdf. By adjusting your page count per printed page you can adjust the size of your cards. I suggest laminating them and keeping them year after year. I use one set per lab table. So I printed 7 sets. You can have the students compete within a single table or between groups. These are the pairs in the memory game: General Animal Cell General Plant Cell General Fungus Cell General Protist Cell (euglena) Nucleus Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum Lysosome Peroxisome Ribosome Golgi Apparatus Flagella Cilia Microvilli Special Animal Cells (4 pairs) Animal and Plant Osmosis cells (6 pairs) Special Plant Cells (3 pairs) Special Fungus cells (2 pairs) Special Protist cells (3 pairs) Prokaryotes (2 pairs) Sex cells Endocytosis and exocytosis * I have a black and white cell memory game available in a separate listing.

Plants Special Topics: Adaptations, Tropisms and Hormones

(0)
Plants Special topics describe plant adaptations, tropisms and hormones. The adaptations section goes over the specialized leaves, stems and protective adaptations. The tropisms cover how plants respond to water, light, tough and gravity. The various hormones are described in terms of how they affect the plants, fruit and leaves during various times of year.

Cell Cycle and Mitosis

(0)
The power point covers cell cycle, G0, G1, S, G2, and mitosis. There are slides for chromosomes, how mitosis is the driving force behind growth, development, regeneration and asexual reproduction. The power point also presents cancer and other disease causes by disrupted cell cycles.
Symbiosis Quest Power Point

Symbiosis Quest Power Point

(0)
This power point has 16 symbiotic scenarios. The students are to read each slide and analyze the pictures in order to choose which symbiotic level is depicted. The fours symbiotic relationships presented are endosymbiosis, commensalism, predation, parasitism and mutualism. I usually have my students work with a partner. It is a lot of fun to hear them talk about each situation using educational dialogue. This is an excellent follow up activity after the Symbiosis Power point to make sure the students understand the difference relationships.
Desert Plant Dichotomous Key

Desert Plant Dichotomous Key

(0)
This is the power point, dichotomous key, answer sheet and answer key which covers desert plants. A variety of desert trees, cactus, wildflowers and landscaping specimens are included. I usually use this in class with my students paired up so they can work the dichotomous key together. Its an excellent activity for students who are not familiar with the desert ecosystem.
Eukaryotes Worksheet Packet

Eukaryotes Worksheet Packet

(0)
A worksheet packet for students to write, describe and draw eukaryotic organelles. Students can use nearly any textbook or website to fill out the basic packet. This a great packet for homework, subwork or as a prelesson.
Cell Membrane Power Point

Cell Membrane Power Point

(0)
Cell membrane power point. Goes over the main function of the cell membrane and its components such as peripheral proteins, glycocalyx, integral proteins, bilipid layer, cholesterol, etc. Students will understand the components of the cell membrane, how it is built from a mosaic of biomolecules and how it allowed life to begin.
Lab Safety and Equipment Writing Task Cards

Lab Safety and Equipment Writing Task Cards

(0)
It is important to promote writing across the disciplines. Sometimes it is difficult to come up with writing prompts. These task cards are specific to secondary science and they cover lab safety and equipment. There are writing prompts for the lab safety procedures, equipment, MSDS, NFPA, behavior and dress. I have included the prompts in the power point format and pdf file format so you can choose which file you would like to use. By adjusting the page settings during printing you can print 6 or more / less prompts per page. This activity can be used as a bell ringer, pop quiz or closing. It is a good exercise to make the brief students write longer and the novel writers write shorter answers. There are 30 writing prompts with instructions as to how many sentences they should write. You can edit the power point file to adjust the sentence requirements.
DNA Processes: DNA replication and Protein Synthesis Power Point

DNA Processes: DNA replication and Protein Synthesis Power Point

(0)
The DNA Processes Power Point covers DNA replication and protein synthesis: DNA transcription and translation. All important enzymes and nucleotides are covered. A summary of each process follows the full length explanations. Students will be able to explain the difference between DNA replication and Protein synthesis. Students will know where the processes take place, which organelles are involved and how the nucleotides translate. Students will also know how to translate codons into the appropriate amino acids.
Biomolecule Comparison Chart

Biomolecule Comparison Chart

(0)
This is a biomolecule chart for the students to fill in. They will compare the polarity, solubility, composition, monomer, polymers, common names, food sources, word parts and common names between carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. I have also included the answers. It is sized to easily be able to place into a composition notebook.
Classifying Organisms Dichotomous Key

Classifying Organisms Dichotomous Key

(0)
Classifying Organisms is a power point for students to classify organisms into the domains and kingdoms. I have also included viruses. There are thirty slides with pictures and a few clues. Students are to decide whether the organism belongs to Archaebacteria, Eubacteria, Plantae, Animalia, Fungus or Protista. Some of the slides may be Viruses. This is a great lesson to encourage academic discussions. The students can work in partners and the teacher is simply the facilitator.
Taxonomy and Classification of Life Power Point
mizzzfostermizzzfoster

Taxonomy and Classification of Life Power Point

(0)
Taxonomy is a system of classification used by scientists to organize organisms. The power point goes over the taxonomic levels and the main groups. Students will know the levels of taxonomy and the characteristics of the main groups. A brief review of viruses is included for comparison so students can see how viruses are not living.

This power point presentation can be done over a few days. It begins with the atom, chemical bonding and the elements of life (CHNOPS: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorous, sulfur). Then it goes over dehydration synthesis and hydrolysis followed by the four biomolecule groups. There is also a guided notes on CHNOPS that is a fill in blank for the first portion of the power point, the key is included. There is a biomolecules comparison chart for the second half of the power point. For the bonding portion of the power point, there is a "chemical bonding in biology" foldable. This can be put together like a brochure if you photocopy it front to back.

Energy Flow: Trophic Levels, Food Chains, Food Webs Power Point

(0)
This power point explains the flow of energy through an environment. It discusses how sunlight is converted during photosynthesis and how organisms then use cellular respiration. Trophic levels, energy pyramid, food chains and food webs are all covered. Students will be able to identify which trophic level an organisms belongs in and understand how the cellular process of photosynthesis and cellular respiration allow energy to flow through an environment.
