Periodic Table (118 elements) Scavenger Hunt Secondary Science

(1)
This is a great worksheet for getting to know the periodic table. The worksheet covers all 118 elements. I included a FREE downloadable periodic table that I used in making the scavenger hunt. This is specific for secondary students because your students may need to do a little research into the meaning of Latin and Greek words, look up mythological beings and celestial bodies. This scavenger hunt is excellent in informing the students of how certain elements got their names and where groups are found. The Teacher Answer Key is included.

Astronomy Ornament Activity (Write, Color, Cut, Glue, Assemble)

(0)
Astronomy Ornament Activity is a fun fine motor skills activity designed for older students to have an opportunity to create a papercraft while using their fine motor skills, through writing, coloring, cutting, gluing, and assembly. There are fifteen celestial objects including an astronaut. The ornaments have a front and back. The front of the ornament is a rendering of the celestial body. The back of the ornament has questions about the astronomy element that students can answer using their books or a quick internet search. Students will color the ornaments’ fronts and backs, cut the ornaments out, and assemble them. Students can glue the fronts and back together. Another option is using cardstock between the two layers for added structural support. I am sure there are multiple other options that you and your students can come up with. These are also fun classroom decorations to hang up. I have hung some of mine from the ceiling and the students enjoy looking at them. Instructions are included as a PowerPoint presentation or pdf file.

Thanksgiving is a difficult time of year with students excited for vacation. Here is a great no-prep activity for secondary science students which will allow them to compete against each other and the clock while reviewing their skills solving problems using dimensional analysis. I love this activity because it keeps my students critically thinking and working together. In this problem set are seven multi-step problems with questions, a student guide sheet with some conversions and a detailed teacher's Key with how to set up the problems and the answers. Although geared towards Thanksgiving, this a great activity to brush up student math skills in Science any time of year!
