This double lesson introduces learners to exchange rates - all three systems. We start by looking at students currents understanding of currencies around the world before discussing the features of the three exchange rate systems. We look at what can cause a floating exchange rate to appreciate or depreciate (with diagrams), we also look at devaluation of a fixed exchange rate system. Pros and cons of each system is discussed. Video case studies and articles to contextualise. We also look at the J-curve and Marshall-Lerner condition so students can use these to evaluate when writing about exchange rates. This double lesson introduces learners to strategies which influence the growth and development of a country. There are quite a few factors on the specification (under market orientated and interventionist) so this could be delivered as a student-led task to research either category, I split the class in half to allocate. We then feedback what students have found out but also go through each factor on the board to extend and fill any gaps in knowledge, or clear any misconceptions gained when learning independently. We also look at industrialisation and other strategies such as development of primary industries, tourism, aid and debt relief. Some true or false questions, video case studies to contextualise the topic, a debate question and a box plenary to finish with. Colourful, concise and engaging slides! Thank you

This lesson introduces learners to the concept of economic development. Before we introduce this we recap what growth is, and consider the limitations of using growth/GDP as a measure of a countries development. We introduce the human development index and look at rankings of countries to gain some context. We look at the pros and cons of using HDI as a way to compare levels of development. This double lesson introduces learners to factors which influence the growth and development of a country. There are quite a few factors on the specification so this could be delivered as a student-led task to research two factors per pair. We then feedback what students have found out but also go through each factor on the board to fill in any gaps in knowledge or clear misconceptions. This ought to help go through the spec requirements quicker and more effectively. We also look at non-economic factors such as corruption, war and disease. This double lesson introduces learners to inequalities around the world and in the UK. We start by looking at some unequal scenes and asking students what inequality is, the impact of it and why it is important to try and reduce inequalities. We consider the difference between income and wealth before looking at the causes of income and wealth inequality. We then look at how to measure inequality through illustration of the Lorenz curve, we then look at how the Gini coefficient can be derived from the Lorenz curve - a plotting a curve task to consolidate this important diagram. In the second part of the lesson we consider capitalism and its influence on inequalities, some interesting debates can be stimulated from this part of the specification. A very interestesting topic due to the application of the financial crisis. We start by recapping what market failure is and how banks fail. We then look at the 2008 financial crisis to understand what happened. Examples of different market failures are given, video case studies to help students contextualise. A 15 mark question on whether banks should be bailed out, indicative points and a peer assessment grid is included for students to use. This set of resources includes 1x PPTs which can be delivered over 2 lessons. 2x word files consisting of exam practice and activities… We introduce learners to labour productivity, turnover, unit labour costs, employee costs as a percentage of revenue. We start with looking at the formulas for each one, with broken down examples to illustrate the concepts. We look at a concise case study with some information on employees and productivity, using this students complete a calculation question along with group presentations on a 24 mark essay based question on labour rentention. After presentations, students can complete the 24 marker, or it could be completed for homework, structure and indicative points are provided to help with peer assesmeents. This is followed by another case study on a construction company, who do things differently, students explore, how they keep their productivity levels up, responses to this could be done in groups and fed back to the class, we finish with a box plenary. Many sources of finance are covered here, the spec’s required sources of finance plus more, the rationale for this is to develop students wider understanding of the topic. This first double lesson introduces learners to ways of raising capital from within the business (internal). we start by discussing the reasons for why a business might need finance and the different types. We look at the 3 main types of internal finance with their pros and cons, before a short pair research task to apply and consolidate. We then look at a concise case study of a firm that requires capital but wants to only use internal finance - a 16 mark question on this with structure guidance and a concise model answer for students to use when peer assessing. A peer assessment grid and how it is used by examiners is provided for students to make improves on WWW and EBI. A box plenary to finish with. The second double lesson introduces learners to the various external sources of finance, building on from internal finance. We start by recapping the reasons for finance, then go through each one with their pros and cons. A brief case study on Dr. Dre’s beats and share capital with a 4 mark question and model answer provided. We then go on to consolidating the knowledge with some matching and recall activities before a group activity, students are put into groups and given scenarios that require finance, students decide which sources of finance are most appropriate for scenario and present ideas back to class. Class then decides who the weakest link is (encouraging application and evaluation skills) A case study and 16 mark question on venture capital is included, structure guidance and a concise model answer is provided to help students develop their exam technique.
