Check out this clear and well-organized guided notes template that covers the tool and approximate length of the customary units of measurement. Presented in a table format on the top and six simple conversion questions on the bottom, this is a great way to build students' understanding of measuring, and the units we use. This is a great transition from lower elementary non standard units to thinking through how we actually use tools and the units we use! An answer key has been included for your convenience.

Check out this fun and engaging way for students to apply their learned concepts of measuring. In this activity, students have two sections they need to complete. The first one gives them specific centimeter lengths that they need to go around the room to find. The second one has various objects that they will have to find the length in centimeters instead. Of course, a ruler will be necessary in order for students to be successful. With clear directions, this worksheet can easily be applied to the classroom, or can be used as a fun homework assignment. Using something as personal as we can get, this activity uses the number of letters in each student's name. With four bars, students will find three finds to create a bar representing their name. You can set it up as you like for students to have to include the middle box or a right side, etc. The idea is that students pick three assignments in a row to complete. They are all project based. This can either be implemented as a homework, where students do one a night, or as an in-class assignment in which students complete one a day. At the end of the week, presentations can be completed. This is a great way to increase participating and engagement in learning and homework. Topics include creating collages, writing a story, creating a technology-based presentation, making word problems and more on converting measurement, labelling the size hierarchy of measuring, and multi-step problems.
