Color Wheel Project with Guided Notes

Check out this awesome project that teaches kids about light energy. We have all learned that a prism refracts or bends the light to show the colors of the rainbow since white light encompasses all the colors. This activity turns it around and allows kids to see white light from the combination of all colors. Included in it is a template to give to each student. On the circle, they will color each slice one of the colors as modeled in the example. Some sort of string is needed by you to run through the two holes as modeled as well. Students will wind up their circle and spin it. I would recommend giving each student two circles, so they can glue them back to back. A one page note taking template is included as well with an answer key that covers terminology such as refraction, reflection, absorption and more. Students will have blast with this project and will always remember how they made white light out of the rainbow, instead of the other way around!

Conductors and Insulators Investigation Lab

Check out this fun and engaging mini-lab in which students will explore the world around them, and test a variety of materials available to them in their classroom if they are a conductor or insulator. You will need to provide the light bulb, battery, cables, and testing objects for students. Students will then create a simple circuit and test each material (rubber band, paper clip, paper, eraser, marker, scissors, etc.) to see if the bulb lights. The attached lab will walk students through what to do and includes a log for students to track their learning.

Weekly Weather Tracker Graphic Organizer Template

(0)
Check out this user-friendly graphic organizer to track various elements of weather of a week. Factors include temperature, chance of rain, wind speed, cloud type and much more. Parts of this template can be filled in based off of visual observations and some components must be looked up. This would be great for students to build their independent research and data tracking skills or whole-class check-ins on elements of weather, as they are learned. It can also be a take-home project for students to explore weather on their own. At the bottom of the weekly tracker, there are four questions that prompt students to analyze their own data. It can easily be printed multiple times in order to track over an extended period of time, but overall a great addition to an interactive science journal!

Vertically Aligned Progression of Florida Science Sunshine State Standards

(0)
Take your science instruction to the next level while you fully understand exactly where your students came from and where they are going. This vertical alignment of standards is content-organized and color coded for simple reference. Based on the Florida Sunshine Standards from 2008 (still being used) this packet clearly articulates the gap in instruction for certain grade levels, when items are scaffolded, when they pick up, and when they drop off. This is great for interventions, acceleration, filling gaps, and so much more!
