Check out this awesome student-centered project that applies moon phase concepts into a long term investigation. This is best suited as a take home investigation, but can easily be adapted to be done in the classroom. The directions and template lead students to observe the moon every three days for about 30 days leading to 10 recordings of what they see. On the template form, students will draw what they say, identify the moon phase and describe the conditions such as date, time, weather, etc. This interactive and engaging project will lead students to discover and apply concepts of how the moon appears to change each night according to its location relative to the Sun and Earth as well as the cycle. This is agreat way for students to take ownership of their learning and apply previous learned concepts!

Check out this awesome mini investigation in which students can develop their understanding of electrical energy, and more specifically the build up of electrons creating static electricity. You will need some small balloons as well as salt to make this possible. Included you will find clear directions for students and teachers that includes objectives, supplemental worksheets to engage students and a clear set of step by step directions. Once the balloons are charged up with electrons, they will make the salt move and therefore will make some cool sounds that the kids will love. Promote problem solving and positive self image with this template. While pushing students to reflect on their feelings and actions, this form is broken into three main parts. The first component has students make a promise for what they are going to do if someone hurts their feeling. The second part prompts them to think through the importance of talking about their feelings. This is heavily aligned to Conscious Discipline and communicating feelings. The third component has student think through why they know they are great. Ending with a signature, this is a great way to be proactive for problem solving behaviors and feelings!

Borken down into two parts, the top half has students analyze various forms of matter, such as cube of ice, soda, clay, and helium, looking at its shape, volume, state, and mass. The bottom half has students connect three columns together which includes the defitinition, its property and its description. This is a great way for students to apply and develop their understanding of the physical properties of matter! An answer key has been included for your convenience.

Check out this simple and clear 13 question worksheet that covers the parts of a microscope. Their is a visual at the top of the page that points to 13 parts. It correlates with the bottom half which has those same 13 parts that adds a section for describing the function. This can serve as a great resource for note taking, can be used as an assessment tool. Students will find the organization user-friendly and engaging. An answer key is included for your convenience!

Add a level of accountability to your group work by simply infusing this student friendly assessment each time. With up to five peers, (or four if you want to including students reflecting on themselves) students will evaluate their peers in four key areas. Each area has a 1, 2, and 3 totaling a possibility of a max of 12 for each partner. These areas include participation, behavior, on task, and work. This is a great way for the students to feel responsible for their actions as well as for the teacher to gain insight into each student's contribution.

Transfer the work-load to students by having them use their own KWL Chart. Though you can still do it on a piece of poster paper or on the board, this is a great way to have students take ownership over their own learning, and track their own progress. This template can be laminated and used again and again or be printed for each unit to allow students to connect their prior knowledge to their own goals to reflecting on what they learned!
