Increase student engagement with this Tic Tac Toe choice activity on Measurement. You can set it up as you like for students to have to include the middle box or a right side, etc. The idea is that students pick three assignments in a row to complete. They are all project based. This can either be implemented as a homework, where students do one a night, or as an in-class assignment in which students complete one a day. At the end of the week, presentations can be completed. This is a great way to increase participating and engagement in learning and homework. Topics include creating collages, writing a story, creating a technology-based presentation, making word problems and more on converting measurement, labelling the size hierarchy of measuring, and multi-step problems.

To support students understand how they play into the larger system around them, this hierarchy map allows students to identify descriptions of themselves, their city, their state, and ultimately their country. This can be used in a variety of ways to support students micro and macro understandings. Engage students with this fun and interactive game. This can be used for review, a hook, whole group practice, or science centers. If you have never played before, the student who has the card that reads: I have the first card... will start. They then read the Who Has...? section in which another student will have the answer to that question on their card. The game continues from card to card to card. Each card is supplemented with a photo to help ELL students, language acquisition, and content based vocabulary understanding. There are a total of 16 cards including the cover card that over a variety of science tools including safety goggles, beakers, magnets and more! As we all know, independent reading at home has a huge impact on students' success in the classroom. Building stamina in our children while they read independently is extremely important. This simple bar graph template provides a great tracking system for the minutes of independnet reading per night. Check out this awesome student-centered project that applies moon phase concepts into a long term investigation. This is best suited as a take home investigation, but can easily be adapted to be done in the classroom. The directions and template lead students to observe the moon every three days for about 30 days leading to 10 recordings of what they see. On the template form, students will draw what they say, identify the moon phase and describe the conditions such as date, time, weather, etc. This interactive and engaging project will lead students to discover and apply concepts of how the moon appears to change each night according to its location relative to the Sun and Earth as well as the cycle. This is agreat way for students to take ownership of their learning and apply previous learned concepts!

Check out this 15-question worksheet that covers multiplying decimals by powers of 10. This can easily be adapted to a quiz, test, exit ticket, homework, guided instruction, or independent work. The questions are simply multiplying a number such as 1.43 by a 10 to the power of something.
