Weekly planning based upon the Nursery Rhyme Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary. Includes differentiated Literacy and Numeracy planning for HA,MA and LA learners including non-negotiable vocabulary and activities for outdoor learning, role play and creative learning. Links well with work on 'growing' gardens and flowers. There is a focus on speaking and listening and vocabulary development through repetition and role play activities.

Pupils cut out the images and descriptions and sequence the story onto a storyboard template. There are three templates attached which support differentiation and reading levels. HA template is numbered only and pupils order the story into the numbered boxes. MA is differentiated using key words from the main text in the numbered boxes. LA order the story into the numbered boxes with the support of key sentences which they can match to the main text.

This example demonstrates features of a diary and acts as a recount of the event including personal feelings and points of view. Useful in the lesson for pupils to use to identify features and structure of diary writing or as a Recount Checklist activity. Can be used in cross curricular History topics on The Great Fire of London or Samuel Pepys diary.

KS1 powerpoint lesson : How to write a party invitation with a Halloween focus. A KS1 power-point of 14 slides which can be used as one lesson or extended over a longer period. There is a warm up, two activities and a final writing task. Included are examples of 2 invitations (birthday and Halloween party) for pupils to use in the lesson to spot the key features and help Lei correct his invitation (because no one has replied!). There are key questions to promote discussion and paired work. Also included is a simple invitation template for pupil use. Pupils can also use the important information/checklist to give paired feedback after writing their own invitation.

Can be used to support units of work on myths and legends, writing folklore, Ancient Greek and Roman topics and inspiring creative writing and book making. Useful for paired and individual use on laptops as a story writing stimulus. I printed the slides and made a class book which my Y5 children loved reading in their ‘quiet time’.

**Guided reading based on Theseus and the Minotaur with learning objective, suggested questions (7) and a simple chronological story activity. Learning Objective: I can retell the myth Theseus and the Minotaur. I can summarise the story. I wrote this shorter version of the myth for a Year four reading group but it could be used with HA Y3, LA Y5 and Y6. Fits well with cross curricular topic work on Ancient Greeks, Greece, Myths and Legends, Mythological beasts and narrative writing. **

There is a simple warm/cold weather clothes matching activity and a template for pupils to design a winter hat. Slides also include signs of winter in nature: plants, birds migrating, frozen lakes/ponds, snowstorms, icicles, footprints in the snow. The final slide is a simple winter acrostic poem which can be used as an example for pupils to use as a starting point before writing their own poem. KS1 & 2 powerpoint lesson about Sun Safety. Written mainly for KS1 but can be easily adapted. Powerpoint of 17 slides which promotes small group and paired discussion about sun safety. Can be used as a complete lesson or adapted for an assembly. The first slides look at fun in the sun and lead into some simple facts about the sun following a short paired talk session to assess pupil knowledge. Pupils are encouraged to look at different photographs of the sun (sunset, sun rise, in space) and describe features. There is a very simple slide on Vitamin D and UV rays linked to health. The children can discuss how to protect themselves in the sun and when to wear sunscreen. The final slide is an example of a sun safety poster which pupils can use as a basis to design their own for the rest of the school (and which can be used as an assessment of their learning).
