I love resources that ensure all pupils are able to access & feel confident within lessons. It makes me sad when a pupil feels stressed because they don't get it. I love hearing a pupil say "I am on it miss". All resources for main part of lessons are differentiated to 3 if not 4 levels of progress. Resource; Solving one and two step equations – Treasure Hunt. Could also be used as a solving equations differentiated loop card resource if it is not suitable for a class to complete as a treasure hunt. I tend to use as a loop card particularly with year 11 for tasks and revision. Contains; 1. 10 amber cards/questions. 10 green cards/questions. 2.Cross Curricular link encourages literacy with the pupils, mathematical discussion in pairs on how to solve problems around the classroom (this is a massive focus in our school). 3. 20 solutions provided within task itself. Each card is beside that answer to make it easy for you to check when pupils say they are finished. 4. Set of instructions to ensure the task runs smoothly. Printing Tip if using as a treasure hunt: This resource has been designed to display around the classroom. You will need one copy (I like to have in colour, but can be black and white) to put up around the room. Print on A4. If you wish to print, select ‘shrink’ or ‘print to fit page’ (or fit to page option on your print settings) in order for it to print correctly on A4. Printing Tip if using as a loop card: You will need a number of copies, depending on class size, one pack per table. You could decide who was completing amber and who was completing green beforehand so you knew how many sets you needed. (I like to have in colour, but can be black and white). RAG catchphrase, Red easy going to purple which is hardest. Something to engage pupils and get them answering as many questions as possible while challenging themselves. Pupils complete as many questions as possible moving them from easy (the red task) to amber (little harder) and then green. Differentiated short division task. Can be used as a worksheet or a thoughts and crosses. Pupils work in pairs. Pupils aim to get a connect four – this can be straight across, diagonal or straight up the sheet. Creates really good discussion around each question. Both pupils complete each question – the person to choose the box wins the box if they get it correct but if they do not get it correct and their partner gets it correct they win the box. First to get connect four - wins. Pupils can also complete as a differentiated worksheet. Pupils can choose between red (foundation, fluency), amber ( little bit harder- the application of the skill), green (secure in the topic being taught, starting to solve problems) and blue (exceeding – pupils can work with skill taught in various contexts, reasoning). Pupils show the questions, working out and answers that they have attempted in their class book. Once pupils have spent however long you wish for them to work on the task. Resource; Introduction to simplifying surds. - Thoughts and Crosses. Could also be treated as a simplifying surds– differentiated worksheet. This is a simple introduction task to simplifying surds. I used this to introduce surds to my year 9 set 1 and they loved it. Contains; 1. 16 questions on thoughts and crosses, moving from foundation level to exceeding. 2.Cross Curricular link encourages literacy with the pupils, pupils speaking to each other and explaining to how solve problems (this is a massive focus in our school). 3. 16 answers provided. 4. Set of instructions to ensure the task runs smoothly. 5. Printable version – white version. 6. Please download file and ensure you don’t just drag and drop to google drive as this can cause issues with the viewing the file. Printing Tip: This resource has been designed to display on board or print on A4.
