To engage students I created a Nando's style homework menu. This one targets key stage 4 and assists teaching of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. 19th century text often studied for GCSE. There are 25 homework tasks already planned, differentiated by 'spice'. Since using these menus, where the students pick for themselves, the amount and quality of homework has improved in my classes, as well as regularity.

A powerpoint, including useful revision cards reminding students how to answer each question of Component 1, alongside a 'practice the skills' lesson for each question using extracts from James and the Giant Peach, as well as a lesson on Component 2, using Bill Bryson and Rudyard Kipling for the 20th and 19th century non fiction respectively. In addition to the powerpoint there is an entire component 2 exam style paper that can be completed, that runs alongside the powerpoint. Very useful in helping the students understand the exam expectations.

Facts, recommended books and images are all included.

A fun, engaging P4C session using famous footballer as a stimulus to discuss respect, who earns it and why it is important. Includes the analysis of a non fiction text and paired, group and class discussion. Improves students reasoning and justification skills.

A fun, interactive P4C lesson discussing the issue of gender equality. Included in the pack is a workbooklet with a Do Now activity to encourage own opinion, two resources (including one more challenging article for top sets/stretch and challenge) and discussion points. This will help students analyse non fiction texts whilst forming their own opinion and justifying it. Great lesson to link to sexism in literature and film, as well as considering the working world and society around them.

An active, interesting and engaging lesson discussing what tolerance is and considering society. Can be used alongside a range of texts that tackle issues with diversity such as Othello, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, The Hunger Games, Noughts and Crosses... Great for team work, speaking and listening, reasoning and justification skills.

A P4C lesson used alongside a Hunger Games scheme of work to discuss the topics in relevance to the real world as well as literature. Great for verbal reasoning, encouraging personal opinion and group work.

A p4c session exploring and understanding gender identity and society. It uses examples from the world of celebrity to inform and help engage students whilst (hopefully) broadening their minds and encouraging acceptance. Uses paired, independent and group work. Improves verbal reasoning and justification of opinion.

A full lesson including links to articles and discussion topics on armed police in America, discussing the morality of this and crime in general. I used to link to The Hunger Games, however it also worked well with Stone Cold, Ruby in the Smoke and other crime novels. Uses speaking and listening skills, reasoning ability and teamwork.

A fun, active P4C (Philosophy for Children) lesson on animal rights, using drama, p4c and speaking and listening skills whilst improving reasoning and justification in the classroom. Suitable for all ages of English students

An iGCSE complete mock paper designed and created to help students prepare for their English Language mock

Set of lessons using analysis of text and mixed media, including a work booklet, articles, extracts and creative writing. Useful to prepare students for GCSE as well as Key Stage 3. A weeks worth of lessons and activities.

Mock iGCSE (Cambridge) paper using extract from Bill Bryson and an article from national geographic. Mark scheme included. Really useful tool when preparing students for their gcse examination.

For Eduqaas GCSE years 10 and 11. A homework booklet that covers both contextual tasks, poetry analysis, revision help and tasks. All of the poems are there alongside an analysis and annotation box. Very useful when avoiding sending the anthology home with students.

A p4c lesson studying social compliance and peer pressure, comparing the Milgram experiment and peer pressure and discussing the positives and negatives. Really engaging lessons- particularly effective with 11-14 year old boys.

A nice P4C (philosophy for children) lesson exploring the theme of love using a poem written by John Clare called 'first love'. A range of paired, group and whole class discussion classes as well as some written tasks as well.
