I am an experienced teacher and currently Head of English and Media in a large secondary school. I am also an examiner for EDUQAS English Language GCSE. I have a range of resources available on TES. Some of my resources are quite old, from when I first started out, and I am currently working in my spare time to update my resources. There are a range of resources from displays, schemes of work, revision booklets, mock exam papers and lessons available.

P4C, Philosophy for Children, lesson on Animal Rights, using SeaWorld

(0)
A P4C lesson discussing animal rights and morality, using an article about Tilikum the whale in SeaWorld and the documentary Blackfish. A good way to have students discuss, justify and improve reasoning skills. A writer in role task is also included at the end of the lesson that can be used as an exit ticket, or homework, which encourages students to play 'devils advocate'.

Boxes included for key quotes and contextual information on each poem, as well as space for comparisons in other linked boxes. Poems to revise and compare: Dulce Et Decorum Est - Wilfred Owen The Manhunt - Simon Armitage The Soldier - Rupert Brooke A Wife in London - Thomas Hardy Mametz Wood - Owen Sheers

Following the structure, format and wording of the WJEC/EDUQAS literature exam paper, I have created a mock paper using Sonnet 43 by Elizabeth Barrett Browning for students to practice exam responses. Included in the resource is an essay planning sheet to help students consider their answer and time their writing.

A p4c session exploring and understanding gender identity and society. It uses examples from the world of celebrity to inform and help engage students whilst (hopefully) broadening their minds and encouraging acceptance. Uses paired, independent and group work. Improves verbal reasoning and justification of opinion.

Hound of the Baskervilles extract analysis lesson. Eduqas style questions

(0)
A complete lesson (or 2 depending on group) analyzing an extract of Hound of the Baskervilles and focusing on tension, drama and language analysis. This lesson will encourage students to closely analyse texts and identify language, as well as authors intention and presentation of main themes. A great revision tool as well as a useful assessment for classes. Suitable for all KS4 classes. This sheet was used with a low ability set, but questions are easily altered.

An engaging, exciting and fast paced lesson looking at the change in language from Shakespearean to modern. Using Shakespearean insults, students play a dice game to create their own before learning how to translate them. Student study what prefixes and suffixes are and try and explain how language has changed. All learning objectives, success criteria and resources are included and timers are embedded into the powerpoint. Dice are needed for this game. Great to introduce Shakespeare!
