I am an experienced teacher and currently Head of English and Media in a large secondary school. I am also an examiner for EDUQAS English Language GCSE. I have a range of resources available on TES. Some of my resources are quite old, from when I first started out, and I am currently working in my spare time to update my resources. There are a range of resources from displays, schemes of work, revision booklets, mock exam papers and lessons available.

Emoji Reward Cards - English.

(0)
A fun set of printable emoji reward cards. They can easily be made into stickers and given to students, be used as postcards for students to take home or be put stuck in their books next to a piece of work. Smaller sizes are made and on the sheet for you to choose.

Emoji Story Starter Cards for Creative Writing

(0)
A fun way to engage students in creative writing and story telling. This tool can be used for both Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3. It is also very accessible for SEN students in lower KS4. Using these cards, students are given a story task. They need to use all six of their emoji's within their story, and can even cut out their stickers to use within their writing. A really fun exercise for students and something that stops the 'writers block' that young people often suffer.

Philosophy 4 Children (P4C) lesson on the ethical issues surrounding pet ownership

(0)
A fun and engaging and thought provoking P4C lesson discussing pet ownership, with a simple article as stimulus. A good article to analyse for non-fiction text alongside novels as well. A great way to get students talking. The entire lesson is planned with resources, Learning Objectives and Success Criteria. Good for encouraging communication, justification of ideas and listening skills. Students really enjoy P4C and it is structured in a way that means all children can achieve.

A p4c session exploring and understanding gender identity and society. It uses examples from the world of celebrity to inform and help engage students whilst (hopefully) broadening their minds and encouraging acceptance. Uses paired, independent and group work. Improves verbal reasoning and justification of opinion.

An active, interesting and engaging lesson discussing what tolerance is and considering society. Can be used alongside a range of texts that tackle issues with diversity such as Othello, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, The Hunger Games, Noughts and Crosses... Great for team work, speaking and listening, reasoning and justification skills.

Eduqaas poetry anthology homework menu

To tackle the lack of enthusiasm about homework in my school I created a menu of homework. This one targets the Eduqaas poetry anthology and gives opportunities to independently research and extend learning. There are 25 homeworks already planned, differentiated by 'spice'. Since using these menus, where the students pick for themselves, the amount and quality of homework has improved.

Key Stage 4 tracking grid for English

To ensure our students understood their grades and progress, I created a tracking grid that shows each half terms grade, as well as a graph to map on their progress and a two line self made target to demonstrate they are responding to feedback and recognising how they can improve. This has been highly praised in observations.
