This resource looks at a section of ‘A Christmas Carol’ - Scrooge’s Old Love- and uses six effective reading strategies (Prior knowledge, Metalinguistics, Visualisation, Main Ideas, Summarising, Inference) to help pupils to understand the language and style of Dickens work. The resource can also be used to draw comparisons between the book and the Disney Film. This resource has been created in conjunction with the North Lanarkshire Active Literacy steps.

This pack aims to help students understand the various forms of travel writing. It includes a blog review by Zoella, a telegraph travel journal, a Visit California advert and a Disneyland poster. Pupils are encouraged to consider the impact of these pieces of travel writing. There is also an opportunity for students to plan their own trip which involved researching skills and managing a budget. The pack encourages pupils to write postcards home/ letters of complaint from their imaginary trip.
