Periodic Function Characteristics Scavenger Hunt - Midline, Period, and Amp.

(0)
This scavenger hunt requires students to use knowledge of midline, period, amplitude and y-intercepts to characterize different sine and cosine functions and their graphs. Students start at any poster, answer the question, and find the answer on another poster around the room. If done correctly, they will end up back at the same poster. This is a great activity to have students self-check their knowledge. Trigonometry Relay Race (CCSS.HSF.TF.B.7)

We've made a trigonometry version of our beloved relay race! In the trigonometry relay race, students are required to use knowledge of: - sine, cosine, tangent - inverse to determine angles - converting degrees to radians and radians to degrees - the unit circle - finding unknown sides using trig functions - exact values of common angles - relationships between sine, cosine and tangent Now with an answer key and equation bank! Our students always love the relay race and is our favorite review for students.

Trig Functions Scavenger Hunt - Finding Side Lengths and Angles (CCSS.HSF.TF.B.7

In this scavenger hunt students will use trigonometric functions to determine missing side lengths or unknown angles. Students will use sine, cosine, tangent and their inverses. Students can start at any poster, solve the problem, and find the answer on another poster. If done correctly they will end up back where they started. Scavenger hunts are a great way for students to take ownership of their work and use self-assessment techniques. If you enjoyed this lesson please leave us feedback and a follow! This is a set of 10 stations requiring students to determine unknown side lengths or angles. QR codes are provided on each station for students to check their answers. Our students also needed extra practice identifying the proper sides of a triangle so that is included as well on 5 stations. We had our students start with these 5 first to make sure their understanding of triangle sides was adequate. This lesson was a resounding success on reviewing and practicing unknown side lengths and angles. Students were required to use sine, cosine and tangent. They will also need to know the inverse functions to solve for the unknown angles. You may also like: Unit Circle Values Scavenger Hunt Complex Number Scavenger Hunt nth Roots Scavenger Hunt

We have bundled two of our most popular activities together for you! X and Y intercepts are an essential lesson for students in middle school math and algebra. These two activities help students practice identifying x and y intercepts from standard and slope intercept form. Both these lessons have been used in our real classrooms and are student approved. In this bundle you will receive: x and y intercept matching - students match intercepts to functions and graphs x and y intercept scavenger hunt - students determine the intercepts of a function and find the matching answer on another poster placed around the room. This modeling and regression analysis activity introduces students to the topic with a hands on activity. Students learn the idea that data is not always perfectly linear and we create models to fit data and predict future information. We have used this activity as a group activity for self exploration and also for direct instruction. We have only had great success with this lesson.

Piecewise Functions Guided Notes or Lesson Practice

This is a straightforward activity involving a problem situation and a pool. Students are given information about the specification about a pool and must come up with the piecewise function, create a table, and graph the information. This is a great way to represent the information in multiple modes and demonstrate a real world example of the importance of piecewise functions. This assignment could be done as a class for instruction or indpendently as a grade or practice. We have completed this lesson in our own classes with great success!

Adding and Subtracting Fractions with Unlike Denominators Scavenger Hunt

(0)
This scavenger hunt has students practicing adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. All answers are in fraction form. Students can start at whatever poster they want and work around to find the next answer. The whole activity is one giant loop, therefore, they will end up back where they started. Our scavenger hunts are a great way to get students practicing and self-checking. Students get the automatic feedback they need by either finding their answer was correct or not finding their answer on a poster and thus knowing they need to resolve.
Counting Coins Game

Counting Coins Game

This game requires and teaches students to identify 5 pennies equals a nickel, 2 nickels equal a dime and 2 dimes and a nickel equal a quarter. Directions: Student rolls a die and takes the same number of pennies as they rolled. Student places the penny on the board and "trades in" for a nickel at 5 pennies. At two nickels the student "trades in" for a quarter. We usually play up to a $1.00 or whomever has the most quarters at the end of time. This game is also a great sponge activity for those extra few minutes you need to have something for student learning.

Box and Whiskers Matching

This activity is all about matching a data set to its 5 number summary and box-and-whiskers plot. Students are given 7 sets of data and have to find the 5 number summary and plot that match it. Matching is a great way to have students analyze a bunch of data at one time and look for similarities and differences. Our students love all matching activities we do and as teachers we feel they get a great deal out of doing them!

This is a math scavenger hunt that focuses on students ability to identify x and y-intercepts of linear functions in standard and slope intercept form. This is a great practice activity or refresher from students in all types of algebra. We love these activities because they let students work independently and assess their own work. This gives them ownership of their work, which they love. We have had nothing but success using scavenger hunts in our math classes! This is definitely one of our favorites! This great activity is a self-checking loop of problems. This set is all to do with finding specific of cosine and sine of a given angle . Students choose to start with any question they'd like, determine the answer, and look for it around the room. Once they find the answer, they complete the question on that specific page. The questions are in a big loop so when the student returns back to their original page, they are finished. This is a fantastic way to have a self-checking review. Students know immediately if they did something wrong with their calculations. It also allows students to spread out and work at their own pace. Note: The answers specifically leave out the angles as to not give students the answers as they move around from problem to problem.

Systems of Equations Matching

Systems of Equations Matching

Our matching activities have been our biggest hit! This activity is requires students to match the system of equations with their graphs and solutions. There are 8 total sets; 4 systems requiring substitution and 4 using linear combination (elimination). Our students, as always, have greatly enjoyed this matching activity. We love matching because it requires students to take a large amount of data and identify characteristics, patterns and solutions.

Characteristics of Functions Relay Race

This activity is for review and practice of the characteristics of the 4 basic types of functions. The review includes identifying characteristics of exponential, linear, absolute value and quadratic functions. The basic of analyzing a function such as the rate of change, function notation and solving functions is also included. A power point slide with directions on how to play the relay race game is attached. These directions are very common but you can play in whatever way you'd like. Also attached are questions to cut out and an answer sheet for each student.

Monsters U Linear Modeling Project (CCSS.HSF.LE.A.1)

This class project is sure to be a hit with any and all of your students! Students have been hired as consultants for Monsters University to solve some team problems. Students must use the provided data to create a linear regression (line of best fit, least squares equation) in order to determine a correlation coefficient. Afterwards, students identify residuals for each piece of data. After collecting all the necessary information, students are led through questions related to the organization. When I did this in class I gave all three (3 similar projects all found on our page) and let them choose. The choices were mixed and the students loved that they were able to individualize the days lesson depending on their interests. After students were finished each group received a reporting form. This is the form the "consultants" would hand their employer to summarize their findings. This was absolutely a hit in our class! We have actually created three similar scenarios to cover the same information. If you want all three projects I have bundled each for just 5.99!
