Decimal Multiplication Bingo Activity

Decimal Multiplication Bingo Activity

(0)
Engaging bingo activity based on decimal multiplication. Bingo is always popular with pupils and I have regularly used them in my lessons - my students have often requested them, or that we do them again after the first go. Pupils can either draw a 3 x 3 grid in their book, or you can print off some of the blank grids at the start of the powerpoint. They then fill their grid with a selection of the bingo question answers. Can play for both a line and a full house to extend the game or keep pupils interested if their questions aren't coming up often. For replayability, the slide questions can be rearranged so they come up in a different order.
Decimal Division Treasure Hunt Activity

Decimal Division Treasure Hunt Activity

(0)
Treasure Hunt activity designed for pupils to practice decimal division. Pupils can complete the task individually or in pairs. The cards should be cut out and stuck around the wall of the classroom. Pupils go and stand near one of the cards (in a pair or individually) - possibly whiteboards should be given to them for working out - and they start with that card. When they answer the question on the card they go and find the card that has that answer on, making a note of the order of the cards (the card numbers are at the bottom of the cards). When they get round to the card they started at, pupils are done and come to you to check their work. The correct order is included in the documents so you can see quickly where any mistakes have been made. Blank answer sheets are also included for pupils to write down the card numbers.

Decimal Addition Fill The Grid Starters

(0)
Two lesson starters, easily editable to consolidate decimal addition. Just play the slideshow as pupils enter and it will continue on a loop. Two squares of a 4 x 4 grid will be revealed on each slide, showing a question. Pupils have to draw the grid and complete it with the correct answers in each square. These resources engage pupils as they need to pay careful attention to see which answer goes where, and so they are settled, ready for the lesson ahead - this activity is ideal for low ability pupils as it gives them an activity they can access right at the start of the lesson.

Reading Scales Complete Lesson

NOTE - For some reason the preview for the powerpoint lesson plan seems to show the formatting weirdly (some textboxes look too small etc.), however when I download it and open the file it looks just as it should. Complete lesson on teaching pupils to take readings from scales (including decimals), with both Powerpoint and SMART Notebook versions. Fully differentiated worksheet included, with a slide of extra challenging questions to display on the board and stretch the upper end of the class. Blockbusters game included as an alternative activity. I have broken down the process of reading the scales quite a lot, you may wish to delete that part from the example slides and set it out yourself if you have your own preferred way of teaching it. I would also recommend checking to see if the starter questions need adjusting for your class, though I have tried to keep them quite generalised.

Division Quiz Quiz Trade Activity

Division Quiz Quiz Trade Activity

(0)
Whole class activity which covers division. This activity is excellent for differentiation as it allows for pupils to choose their own level of question and progress to the next difficulty at their own speed. It also encourages pupils to work together independently to solve their difficulties instead of instantly relying on the teacher. I have used it many times with my classes and it has proved to be a highly engaging resource for pupils. Instructions: - Print off the card sets on red, amber and green card respectively and place each set of cards somewhere in the room (keeping the same colours together). - All pupils start on a red card. - Pupils attempt the question on their card writing their answer and their initials on the back. - Pupils fetch another card and repeat. - If pupils pick a card that has been completed, they check the answer. If they come to the same answer they add their initials to the back. If they disagree they find the original pupil and discuss the question together. - Pupils move up to the next level of difficulty when they feel they are ready. Red Cards: Division with no carrying remainders required Amber Cards: Division, answers are whole numbers, involves carrying remainders. Green Cards: Division, decimal answers.
One Step Linear Equations - Follow Me Cards
prof689prof689

One Step Linear Equations - Follow Me Cards

(0)
Activity where pupils in the class are dealt 2-3 cards each. One pupil has the Start card and reads out an equation. The pupil with the answer on their card reads out the answer and the next equation. This continues round the class until it reaches the pupil with the End card. There are 64 cards, so each pupil will have to stay focused to listen for the equation to which they have the answers, and they will each get a couple of turns at least so they can't disengage after answering one question. Suggested use: a starter/plenary to consolidate learning early on when studying equations. PDF version now included!

Decimal Subtraction Blockbusters Game

Decimal Subtraction Blockbusters Game

(0)
Fun and engaging blockbusters activity for the classroom based on the classic TV show. This particular activity is designed to help pupils consolidate their knowledge of place value. Split the class into two teams and assign each one to be either blue or white. Each team takes turns to choose a letter that will then reveal a question. If they get the question right make the tile their colour by clicking the blue or white boxes on each tile. The blue team win if they make a connected row across the screen, and the white team win if they make one going down. Because the blue team have another tile to complete, they should go first.

Decimal Subtraction Connect 4 Game
prof689prof689

Decimal Subtraction Connect 4 Game

(0)
Connect four game for pupils to do in pairs or groups of four (with two teams of two pupils). In my experience the activity works best when the board is laminated and pupils can use whiteboard markers. Pupils take it in turns to try and answer a question, and are peer assessed by the other team. If they get it correct they can put their initials over the space, and the goal is to get four squares in a row. The pupils could also used coloured post it's or counters. Answers are included.
