Addition and Subtraction Bingo Games

Addition and Subtraction Bingo Games

(0)
Two bingo activities based on addition and subtraction. These bingo games are always popular and have regularly engaged my pupils in lessons, and they have often requested that we do them again. Pupils can either draw a 3 x 3 grid in their book, or you can print off some of the blank grids at the start if the powerpoints. They then fill their grid with a selection of the bingo question answers. Can play for both a line and a full house to extend the game or keep pupils interested if their questions aren't coming up often.
Addition and Subtraction Fill The Grid Settlers

Addition and Subtraction Fill The Grid Settlers

(0)
Four lesson starters, easily editable, practicing addition and subtraction (two each). Just play the slideshow as pupils enter and it will continue on a loop. Two squares of a 4 x 4 grid will be revealed on each slide, showing a question. Pupils have to draw the grid and complete it with the correct answers in each square. These resources engage pupils as they need to pay careful attention to see which answer goes where, and so they are settled, ready for the lesson ahead - this activity is ideal for low ability pupils as it gives them an activity they can access right at the start of the lesson. Answers are included in a separate document.
Equations from a Straight Line Worksheet

Equations from a Straight Line Worksheet

(3)
Double sided worksheet with 24 straight line graphs for pupils to write down the equation of. ranging from positive gradients to negative, and then fractional gradients. EDIT: I recently did a lesson on this topic with some higher set year 11’s, so have produced a second, harder sheet that includes axes with different scales, forcing pupils to use “change in y/change in x” to find gradient instead of just going one across and counting squares. The new sheet is only one sided, but is more suitable for higher attaining pupils. Answers now included.

Addition and Subtraction Connect 4 Activities

(0)
Fun and engaging Connect 4 game for practising addition and subtraction. Pupils pair up (or could be played with two pairs against each other) and take it in turns to answer a question, if they get the answer correct (and the other pupil(s) agrees) they write their initials over the square with a whiteboard marker. You could also use post-its or counters for this. First pupil (or pair) to get a line of 4 correct answers wins!

Addition and Subtraction Treasure Hunt Collection

(1)
Three treasure hunt activities on addition, subtraction and a mix of the two that engage pupils and add variety to lessons. Pupils can complete the task individually or in pairs. The cards should be cut out and stuck around the wall of the classroom. Pupils go and stand near one of the cards (in a pair or individually) - possibly whiteboards should be given to them for working out - and they start with that card. When they answer the question on the card they go and find the card that has that answer on, making a note of the order of the cards (the card numbers are at the bottom of the cards). When they get round to the card they started at, pupils are done and come to you to check their work. The correct order is included in the documents so you can see quickly where any mistakes have been made. Blank answer sheets are also included for pupils to write down the card numbers.

Factorising Quadratic Expressions Full Lesson

(0)
Lesson plan aimed at higher sets on factorising quadratics, including approximate timings for each slide. WARNING: Lesson is made for SMARTBoard technology, NOT Promethean ActivInspire. Lesson begins with a six question starter recapping previous topics (easily adjustable if needed), including an answers slide. Pupils are then taken through recapping what factors are and encouraged to think about both positive and negative factors. Pupils then shown examples (which will need to be completed by the teacher) and given three levels of differentiated questions. The next slide contains the first couple of answers for the easy and medium sections to be shown a few minutes into the independent working period. There is a printable extension page complete with example for simplifying quadratic algebraic fractions for pupils who are comfortable with all levels of factorising. After independent working the learning is extended by solving quadratic equations by factorising, complete with a final differentiated question page to work on this skill.
