These resources are basic handouts that I developed in order to teach a selection of poems by WW1 poets to KS3/KS4 students
The poems/poets included are:
Siegfried Sassoon - Glory Of Women
Wilfred Owen - Dulce Et Decorum Est
Lawrence Binyon - For The Fallen
There are information sheets on all of the poets and their lives/backgrounds, and one extra on Hedd Wyn, the Welsh Bard who died in WW1.
Lawrence Binyon's poem is not included in many anthologies, but it will be familiar to some students as a part of it is read out during memorials at the national and local cenotaphs.
"They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn them"
There is a comprehension exercise on Wilfred Owen's summary document, which ties into inference and reading between the lines, as well as a copy of Siegfried Sassoon's declaration against the war, which was read out in Parliament and published in many national news papers at the time.
There are also some WW1 posters and an information sheet on the poisonous gases used in WW1, to support understanding in the poems by Sassoon and Owen.
Resource collection on Perimeter, Area and Volume. Covers Rectangles/Cuboids, Circles, Triangles and the difference between centimetres and centimetre squares.
These interactive spreadsheets have been designed to teach Excel from the basics upwards. They cover:
+-/* functions
cell references
addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with two cells
SUM function
IF statements
The read only one is designed for students to use, allowing them to enter information into the spreadsheet without overwriting the original copy.
The spreadsheet is programmed to give notifications if the learners enter in the formulae and answers correctly.
There is also an editable copy to allow you to make changes to the master sheet, if you wish to adapt it for further use.
Designed for Functional Skills ICT (Level 1 and Level 2) and used to teach adults who were barely ICT literate, or novices at Microsoft excel. Makes use of colour coding to direct learners around the spreadsheet. Separate tabs for each function to allow for separating out individual skills for revision.
These PowerPoints, along with the self assessment sheet, were put together to deliver a crash course in Functional Skills Level 1 Mathematics to adult learners.
The self assessment sheet allows people to identify their strengths and weaknesses in mathematics. All of the skills and requirements are mapped from the Level 1 Functional Skills curriculum (2016).
The introduction covers what Functional Skills actually is, the topics required by the syllabus, the structure of the exam, rules/requirements concerning equipment and it introduces the self assessment sheet.

PowerPoint game revising Functional Skills English knowledge from Entry Level 1 up to Level 2.
Includes sound effects from "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" - best played with speakers for dramatic effect!
A question is displayed with four possible answers. The correct answer for each is revealed on the next slide. If you can complete the game, you 'pass' FS Level 2.
Play with a group. Draw names at ransom to answer the questions and allow 'contestants' to:
"Phone a Friend" - ask on specific person in the group for their answer
"Ask the Audience" - take a vote from the group on the correct answer
"Go 50/50" - tell them one correct and one incorrect answer.
Good icebreaker / training tool for assessors new to Functional Skills
Revision tool for L1/L2 learners
Fun group activity for start/end of course
Chris Tarrant not included :)
A selection of 'Real Life' mathematics activities, focusing on identifying the best value and prices for every day goods such as bread, kitchen spray, baked beans and cola.
3 x Introduction Powerpoints and 3 x Question Powerpoints
Factorising (1) Linear Expressions into Single Brackets
Factorising (2) Quadratic Expressions into Double Brackets
Factorising (3) Completing the Square
Suitable For: KS3 / KS4
*DIGITAL LEARNING RESOURCE
I work for a digital learning school. Most activities are designed to be completed on a laptop/chromebook and links to further digital learning will require an internet connection. *
