Topic 2 Short Vowel Game “Sit On The Rug With The Cat” is a game to reinforce the 5 short vowels. The student is required to read and spell CVC words (Consonant Vowel Consonant) such as red, bad, ran, ten, bed, wet, dig, big, dip, hop, box, dog, fun, rug and bus. Topic 7 Discrimination Of /th/, /v/ And /f/ Activity The sounds of /f/, /v/ and /th/ are often confused. This activity is aimed to help with hearing the differences in these sounds at the beginning, middle or end of the word… Common words are used to develop reading vocabulary.

Topic 7 Discrimination Of /SH/, /CH/, /TH/ And /WH/ Activity An activity geared towards the discrimination of the sounds /sh/, /ch/, /th/ and /wh/. 24 words are read and the student has to discriminate between the sounds. The student then has to write the word under the picture with the same sound and finally to check their own work.

Topic 8 Sky TV Word Building Activity A word building activity using the 2 letter S blends. The student uses sound tiles to build the words. Colour coding of the vowel is used to help with word building skills

Topic 12 Essential Words Leaping Frog Reading Activity A reading activity to develop automatic recall of essential words needed to read fluently. Students gradually increase the number of words being read until there are 100 in total. The aim once the words are secure is to read all 100 in under 1 minute.

Topic 10 2 Letter Blend Tile Activity A word building activity incorporating all the 2 letter blends. Sound tiles are used to build words and visual picture are supplied to ensure knowledge of the 2 letter blends. Some of the word used are swim, blob, drum, stop, prim, scan, clot, bran, plan, smog, glum, trap, skin, grin, spot, flag, snip, crab, slug and frog.

Topic 8 S Blend Ladder Reading Activity A reading activity incorporating all the 2 letter S Blends. Each ladder has words from the same 2 letter S blend and colour coding is used to help with word building skills. ladders are also provided where the student fills in the missing 2 letter S blend and ladders where the student has to write the entire word.

Topic 7 Discrimination of /sh/ And /ch/ Activity A discrimination activity to help with hearing the difference between the sounds /sh/ and /ch/.

Topic 8 Multisensory Digraph /OR/ Worksheets A complete set of /OR/ worksheets incorporating all the essential spelling skills and strategies needed to learn these words. A strong emphasis is on awareness of sounds and developing the student’s ability to blend. The worksheets are colour coded and there are tracking exercises to ensure a multisensory approach is achieved.

Topic 9 Multisensory Vowel Digraph /ER/ Game “Hammer To Be The Winner” is a spelling game to practise the /er/ sound. Players need to be able to recognise the sound units in a word, blend, read and finally spell the word.

Multisensory /wh/ Worksheets These worksheets concentrate on teaching the difficult /wh/ words. Vowels and consonant sounds are reviewed first and then visual imagery is used to help teach these words.

**Level 1 Topic 1 Long Vowels ** AIM: To learn that long vowels say their letters names, To know that the 5 long vowels are “a” as in acorn, “e” as in emu, “i” as in ivy, “o” as in oval & “u” as in unicorn. To know that if the sound of the word ends in “i” then you must change that “i” to a “y” as in fry. To know that if a vowel is at the end of the word or syllable it is long and says its name as in ā for acorn, ē for emu, ī for ivy, ō for oval and ū for unicorn.

Long Vowels Worksheets These worksheets teaches the long vowel sounds as in “a” for acorn, “e” as in emu, “i” as in iron, “o” as in oval and “u”: as in unicorn. Visual imagery is used to teach the rule that if a word ends in “i” you must change it to a “y”. There is plenty of variety and the worksheets are fun and creative.
