Topic 4 Multisensory Assimilation ND Game “Stand On Your Hands” is a game to reinforce the short vowel sounds and the assimilation /nd/ sound. Players need to be aware of the different sound units in a word and which vowel to use to make a correct word.

Topic 3 Multisensory Assimilation NK Game “Who Knows Frank’s Bank Code” is a game working on decoding skills. Players have to convert symbols into sound units and then blend the sound units to make the word. Players have to read and then spell the word and so reinforcing the /nk/ sound.

Topic 1 Multisensory Assimilation MP Game “Dump In Five” is a game to practise and reinforce the sound units in words using /mp/, The game concentrates on word building, blending, reading and spelling skills.

Topic 2 Multisensory Assimilation NT game “Rent A Plot For Your Tent” is a game to reinforce the reading and spelling of /nt/ words as in tent. The vowel is colour coded in red and players need to blend, read and spell the words. Examples of words covered in the game include rent, tent, went, hunt, sent, splint, hint, blunt and spent.

Topic 2 Reading Activity of Short Vowels A set of 5 reading bookmarks for the vowels /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/ and /u/. A good reading activity to practise CVC words and develop automatic recall of the words to assist with reading.

Topic 2 Discrimination of Long and Short Vowels Activity This activity is designed to help those students who find it difficult to discriminate between long and short vowels. Long vowels say their names and short vowels say their sounds. The student posts words into Mr Long and Mrs short depending on whether the word contains a short or long vowel. Full instructions are given.

Visual Discrimination Of Vowels Tracking And Reading A set of tracking and reading activities to be completed over a period of 7 days. Each of the five vowels /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/ and /u/ are tracked for individually. Then a collection of 3 letter words containing all 5 vowels need to be read. To read these words successfully the student needs to be able to discriminate between the 5 short vowels.

Topic 2 Short Vowel Door Activity An activity to demonstrate and explain the concept of closed syllables. A closed syllable has at least one letter after the vowel /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/ or /u/. The vowel is short and says its sounds as in /a/ for apple, /e/ for egg, /i/ for igloo, /o/ for octopus and /u/ for umbrella.

Topic 8 S Blend Word Game “Spot The Smoke Stack” is a game to practise the reading and spelling of “S” Blend words. It also requires the ability to be able to discriminate between the following “S” Blends /st/, /sc/, /sp/, /sl/, /sk/, /sw/, /sm/ and /sn/.

Topic 9 L Blend Word Game A game to reinforce the 2 letter L blends /bl/, /cl/, /gl/, /fl/,/pl/ and /sl/. Players may pick their own words or use a the reading sheet to find 2 letter L blends to spell.

Topic 6 /wh/ Words Game “Whats Up” is a spelling and reading game to help reinforce words beginning with /wh/. Words included are what, where, who, why, when and which.

Topic 7 /sh/ /ch/ /th/ /wh/ Words Game “What’s In The Chest” is a game to reinforce the sounds /sh/, /ch/, /th/ and /wh/. Good visual discrimination is needed to identify the different spelling patterns. The student needs to be able to read and spell words like fish, must, there and which.

Topic 5 /th/ Words Game “Thumbs Up” is a reading and spelling game to reinforce the /th/ words. Words included in the game are the, them, then, they, there, than, that, thin, with and this. The game is quick and is an excellent way to review these /th/ words

Topic 2 Short Vowel /i/ Game “In The Bin” is a game to reinforce CVC words (Consonant Vowel Consonant) using the vowel /i/. Students need to be able to blend sounds to make words such as /p/ and /ig/ making pig, /b/ and /in/ making bin, /r/ and /ip/making rip and /s/ and /it/ making sit. The student is required to read and spell CVC words (Consonant Vowel Consonant) such as red, bad, ran, ten, bed, wet, dig, big, dip, hop, box, dog, fun, rug and bus.
