Estimating the mean from a grouped frequency table

Estimating the mean from a grouped frequency table

Quite like this. A little discussion on finding the midpoint, followed by an example problem pair, followed by a very scaffolded exercise followed by an activity where pupils have to look at what’s changed, which I think is quite cool. I used Dr Frost to top off a little bit of practice here, too.

GCSE Quadratic Graphs Card Sort Activity

GCSE algebra card sort. Really simple excel card sort. Cut out the tables, the equations and the graphs. Students have to match them together. As always, please comment and rate with suggestions for improvement.
Sequences - Collect a joke

Sequences - Collect a joke

(2)
A worksheet for simple sequences, both generating from a written rule, and finding the missing number. Students start at T. They then answer the question at the bottom of the letter, to find the answer at the top of their next letter. And so on. If they complete this it should spell out the punchline 'Tyrannosaurus Wrecks&'
Label the hypotenuse

Label the hypotenuse

(2)
Really simple little worksheet. Label the hypotenuse on 6 rotated triangles. Uploaded because I could find anything similar
Dividing Decimals

Dividing Decimals

(2)
Simple but comprehensive. Goes through dividing integers that make decimal answers all the way up to dividing two decimals. Some example problem pairs, some exercises, a ‘correct the work’ exercise, a little learning check. Use bits you want, chuck out bits you don’t. I wrote the questions to encourage thinking.
Rounding to significant figures

Rounding to significant figures

(1)
CHANGELOG : Massively updated 23/09/2021 to clean up a lot of stuff and add a section on identifying how many significant figures are in a number. I also collated the activities into a worksheet. 20/9/22 : Changed the worked examples to avoid duplicate digits. Full lesson. Starts with a pattern spot (you could use mini whiteboards), moves on to some increasingly difficult problems, then a lovely pixel puzzle.
Multiplying Algebraic Fractions

Multiplying Algebraic Fractions

I’ve kept this as a separate lesson from dividing. I think it’s worth taking the time. Prior knowledge check Example problem pairs Learning check When I come to update this, I will add a section on multiplying then factorising. It wasn’t quite appropriate for the class I designed this lesson for. NOTE : I update my lessons a lot. To correct errors or make them better. I don’t always reupload them here. You can find the latest version of my PowerPoint here.

Solving two step equations

Does as it says on the tin. There’s probably two lessons in here. Includes a worksheet with the same questions as on the PowerPoint. Answers are provided.
Experimental Probability
richardtockrichardtock

Experimental Probability

(1)
Full lessons. Covers a few discussion points, and goes through how to find experimental probabilities from tables. You should probably print off the questions as they go over two pages.

Angles in quadrilaterals

(1)
Quadrilaterals/kites/exterior angles. Need to add something on algebra when I come to update. NOTE: Everything is a work in progress. The latest version of this file can always be found at this link.

Starter about hatching eggs and a rich task involving student developing a plan to maximise XP and minimise time spent. Made by a colleague who is shy to upload stuff. I understand none of it. Much thanks to him.
Changing the subject by factorisation
richardtockrichardtock

Changing the subject by factorisation

(1)
Really simple resource. Changing the subject when you need to factorise. Split into three sections -If your terms are already grouped -If you need to group them -If you need to multiply across and then regroup. Example problem pairs and exercises for all, although the exercises aren’t anything very exciting at all.
Index Laws : Power Law and change of base

Index Laws : Power Law and change of base

(1)
Trying to aim for a mastery/in depth lesson, rather than getting all the index laws done in one lesson. Huge credit to Jo Morgan (@mathsjem). Nicked a lot from her for this resource. CHANGELOG : 10/3/2022 Changed to new format, a bit of cleaning up
Simultaneous Equations - One linear One Quadratic

Simultaneous Equations - One linear One Quadratic

(2)
Full lesson Example problem pairs Questions Exam questions Learning check When I come to update this, I need to add more questions where substitution is required. NOTE : I update my PowerPoints a lot, but don’t always reupload them to TES. They’re a work in progress. The latest version of this PowerPoint can always be found here.

Covers simple interest, compound interest, appreciation and depreciation. 3 exercises and a few big questions. Example problem pairs for everything.
