Throughout this scheme pupils will be taught to compose, perform and appreciate differing varieties of dance. The scheme focuses on coordination of isolated body parts, such as arms and legs, when on the spot and traveling, interlocking with a partner and using physical manipulation to initiate actions that go up and down, around and around and side to side. Chorographically pupils will concentrate on spatial features, such as dimensional movement and contrasting pathways. Furthermore the cause and effect helps pupils build from solo work to duet, into small groups. Pupils will be expected to identify and describe key actions and dynamic, spatial and relationship features, making connection between what they will see in the “Cog” video to movements they learn, create and perform.
Throughout this scheme of work pupils will be expected to draw links from the “Cog” stimuli to the wider social issue of “Friendship”. Pupils will discuss the meaning of friendship and what it takes to be a good friend - characteristics will be highlighted and explained. Cause and effect/chain reactions will serve as physical interpretations of a friendship break down. Pupils will be expected to explore their own friendships, discussing any challenging social issues they may have personally experienced.
Throughout this scheme pupils will be taught to compose, perform and appreciate variety of dance. In particular pupils will be expected to respond to a stimuli, experimenting with the use of symbolic and representational movements, explore differing types of travelling and transitional pathways along with applying acting episodes and performance skills within their set motifs. Pupils will also develop movement though the use of Action, Spatial and Dynamic features.
Throughout this scheme pupils will be taught to compose, perform and appreciate differing varieties of dance. Pupils will learn how to create and develop material that communicates the powerful message of the dangers of drug addiction. Pupils will be expected to respond to a stimuli, drawing from their differing reactions and emotions to create modern choreography telling a story. Pupils will learn to develop movement though the use of level, canon and unison, working in particular on lifts and floor work. Pupils will be discussing mature and sensitive content throughout the scheme, watching videos and using stimuli designed to test their conceptions and enhance their understanding.
This scheme of work tackles a serious contemporary issue of drug taking. Attention to the characteristics of drugs, the effect on behaviour and the emotional state of an addict provide both the narrative for the dance and the focus for the development of expressive skills. The key priority for this scheme of work is for pupils to use dance as a medium to express their thoughts and feeling about a serious social issue - alongside the physical challenges of creating the dance are the opportunities to discuss concerns relating to drugs.
