This resource is a companion to the novel, Zane and the Hurricane, by Rodman Philbrick. The essay questions and writing prompts require students to provide textual evidence to support their thinking, opinions, and/or perspectives. It includes the following: 13 Essay Questions Lined paper - 1 sheet at the end, without a prompt at the top, to copy if students need more than one sheet.

Vocabulary knowledge is a direct link to reading comprehension. This vocabulary study provides vocabulary activities for words that appear in the novel Zane and the Hurricane by Rodman Philbrick. This resource includes: Vocabulary Study Chapters 1-5: match word to definition & fill in the blank sentences Chapter 6-10: crossword puzzle Chapters 11–15: Use the context clues in quotes from the story to determine word meanings, then draw pictures to represent each word.
