Halloween Coding for Juniors -Using Scratch Jr, 1 block extra, answer key, notes

(0)
This Halloween themed resource gives an opportunity to expose junior students to the world of coding using the user friendly coding app Scratch Jr. Coding is an essential skill in the digital curriculum for 21st Century learners. Coding is the ability to create instructions that allow a set of actions to be carried out. The resource doesn’t require a device or access to the internet. Students can cut and past the missing pieces of code into a command to achieve the desired outcome on the worksheet. The extra challenge with this activity is that there is an extra superfluous block. The students need to decide which block is not needed to complete the code. The resource has 2 activity sheets (2 levels of difficulty with the same task), answer sheet and teacher notes.

I have made this Thanksgiving themed resource to help begin meet the needs of our 21st Century learners. The skills they will need will involve a capability of working in a digital environment. This activity focusses on coding. However it can equally be seen as a sequencing activity, a problem solving activity or a positional maths activity. This is an introductory activity to using coding. It doesn’t require the use of a device or access to the internet. Though you may like to show students the actual Scratch Jr app as well. The success of these tasks is best achieved with plenty of prior discussion and modelling. The challenge with these activities is working with anticlockwise and clockwise turns This resource comes with; Four worksheets of simple coding. The four increase in challenge. Answers for each worksheet

This resource has 7 Summer themed images (‘Summer’ and sun, Ice Cream Vendor, Beach Ball, Ice Cream and Watermelon, Shells and Starfish, Beach Scene, and Grasshopper) to put together and create the agamograph. This resource has all the combination pairs (21). There are two levels of challenge; the final image is composed of 8 strips (4 strips for one Summer image and 4 strips for the other), suitable for younger students the final image is composed of 16 strips (8 strips for one Summer image and 8 strips for the other) I have also included blank templates for students to create their own two images to combine.
