Designed to extend thinking beyond the obvious for KS4 students, though could also be used with more-able KS3. The idea is to take a textual reference and 'zoom out' beyond initial impressions, to writer's techniques, writer's intentions and finally, symbolic meanings. Hopefully it might be useful to others.
