This diagram was developed with a student who wanted to understand how the ions become atoms again during electrolysis. The 'push' and 'pull' comments are designed to enforce the idea that the process will not occur without an energy input. Comments would be appreciated.

I developed this resource for a mid-range GCSE group who have to be able to write balanced half equations for binary salts. This activity can be used with the Nervous Control Powerpoint Presentation or as a stand alone activity. Students draw round a 5-pointed star using the reflection in a mirror. They will find that they speed up over the course of six stars and develop strategies for coping with difficult turns. Some students find the activity more difficult than others and they can discuss why this might be (eg visual vs kinesthetic learners)

Each area is split into four threads (eg Effort is split into focus, task completion, problem solving and organisation). Behaviour area has also been developed as a prezi presentation (see link) Within each thread there is a statement for each level (0-4) which enables dialogue about how to improve in specific areas of difficulty (rather than 'I need to do better/work harder') and can be used as a self assessment and target development tool.
