A fun song written for a Reception class to be performed with actions and instruments to enhance their assembly about ‘Chinese New Year.’ but it would be suitable for the whole of KS1. The actions are contained in the lyrics of the song and tuned percussion were used to create melodic ostinati. The children really loved creating a fan dance to the backing track in between the two verses.
A fun song/rap written for a Nursery class to be performed with actions, props, claves and instruments linking with their topic on ‘Chinese New Year’. We performed this at an assembly with a blue cloth river, animal masks and instruments and the parents loved it. It would be suitable for the whole of KS1 and could be a stimulus for a whole host of activities from the use of ordinal numbers, to dance, to mask making as well as all the obvious musical activities.
A fun song written for a Year 1 class (but suitable for K.S.1) linked to their topic on ‘Light and Dark.’ The song explores louds and softs in music leading to the children creating their own Day and Night music and many other musical activities around the topic. Why not create a dance using black and yellow scarves or strips of crepe paper.
This song with sound effects was written for a reception class to perform after their walk into their local town. The children created actions and selected sound sources to accompany the song then composed a piece of music in Rondo form painting a musical picture of their journey. The song would be suitable for the whole of K.S.1 and could be the starting point for many other activities.
A fun song with an echo re-telling the traditional Red Riding Hood Story written for a Year 2 class and their dance/gymnastic/mime assembly. Extension activities include creating music for the main characters in the story and composing using graphic notation and exploring major and minor keys.
The sung chorus and first verse of a thought provoking song/rap written for a year 6 class to tie in with their topic on W.W.2. The children were amazing creating and performing their own verses and this paved the way for many other musical activities. The activity would be suitable for the whole of K.S.2.
Written as an additional solo opportunity to add to the amazing ‘Edith’s Wartime Scrapbook’ written by Mick Riddell and published by ‘Edgy Productions’. (I highly recommend this as an end of term production.) The song works as a stand alone song too for KS2 to tie in with a topic on ‘War.’ Extension activities include creating a piece using a melodic ostinato and writing topical songs and raps.
Written in 2012 and performed by St Joseph's R.C. School in Hertford, Advent themes are explored by spelling out the word Advent. Each child plays a part by singing, reading, listening or writing original reflections whilst hopefully examining their own Advent journey. A combination of musical styles makes this a heart-warming and thought provoking service.
A thought provoking song in two parts mixing old and new and different languages whilst singing of the need for all nations to live together peacefully and stop 'The Drum Beats of War!'
Written in 2013 this simple service explores a variety of Advent themes using the imagery of lit purple candles. Each child is involved by singing, reading, processing and writing reflections. Parents declared this was the most moving Advent Service they had ever been to.
A simple re-telling of the traditional nativity with narration in rhyme, acting and singing. The songs are simple with opportunities for dancing and soloists but the addition of actions in the choruses of the songs means that all children feel involved and have a happy and pro-active nativity experience whilst learning about the true meaning of Christmas.

In this refreshingly different retelling of the age old tale, the story of the Nativity unfolds during a court case to decide whether the 'Awesome Angels' or the 'Shimmering Stars' played the most important part in the story of the first Christmas. The humorous script and ten catchy songs in a variety of musical idioms will engage KS1 children from start to finish without diminishing the importance of this great event. No child will feel left out as there are 60 parts in total with plenty of opportunities for solo or group singing, dancing, actions and basically a whole lot of fun in this unique Christmas Play for Infants. 'Star Reporters' is a retelling of the Christmas Story with a modern twist. The action takes place up high in the galaxy where twinkling stars are assigned to 'spy' on earthly events below with their twinkling eyes, record this on their 'Star Pads' then report their findings back to their superiors Lady Astrid and Lord Cosmos supporting their stories with video footage. Narrators make sure that the nativity story is clear which is then acted out in song and dance. The children from Sacred Heart School in Ware and St. Joseph's in Hertford loved the songs from the hint of a 'Tango' in the 'Silly Census' song to the swing feel of the 'Singing Swinging Star' and parents loved the performances. However I realised that I had made the script too 'wordy' for F.S. so I have now written a simpler script for younger children and am marketing the original script as a K.S.1 script. I hope this helps you to put on a stress free Christmas Production.
A short and sweet chronological re-telling of the Nativity Story using well known children's songs. This was written as a special request from St Joseph's Playgroup in Hertford for their Christmas performance in 2014. The parents loved the children's performance and the playgroup leaders said it helped the children to remember the events leading up to the very first Christmas Day. Great fun was had by all.
An original re-telling of the Nativity Story giving the children the opportunity to play classroom percussion instruments as well. In the story the 'teachers' ask the children which instruments would best paint a musical picture of the characters in the story. As the instruments are selected and played the characters take centre stage and the story unfolds. The children, teachers and parents from Sacred Heart School in Ware and St Joseph's in Hertford really loved the performances.
A delightful Nativity Play with a modern day twist. An enlightened Parish Priest determined to make parishioners focus on the real meaning of Christmas hands each family a box of Christmas Crackers as they leave Midnight Mass. These are the 'Nativity Crackers' and each riddle and gift reveals something about the Christmas Story. As the crackers are pulled and the message dawns on the family, they freeze frame and we are transported back in time to the events of the first Christmas Story. The children, staff and parents of two Hertfordshire schools loved this play. The songs in a variety of styles offer much scope for actions, dance and solos and the script can be adapted to suit your needs.
Everything you need: script, cast lists, sheet music, backing tracks and full audios, to put on a refreshingly different Christmas Nativity Play. Nativity Train on Track for Christmas is an original take on the Nativity story for EYFS and KS1 where we join the children on a train journey from one Nativity Station to the other. We visit Nazareth, The Roman Barracks, Feather Stone Farm (where the Donkey is having a little holiday from the busy town), Busy Bethlehem, Super Star Mountain, The Special Stable and Shepherd Mountain. The script is very simple with nine Station Masters setting the different scenes and there are all the usual suspects you would find in a traditional Nativity Story. The songs are catchy, easy to learn and humorous where appropriate including opportunities for solo singing but there are plenty of choruses for the whole cast to join in with and perform actions to as well. The parents and staff at St Joseph's School in Hertford and Sacred Heart in Ware thoroughly enjoyed this show and I hope you will too.
This is a Magical Christmas Nativity play in more ways than one. The story starts when the teacher announces that the local priest has asked Years 1&2 to provide a tree for the Christmas Tree Festival in his church but the tree has to tell the story of the nativity. As the children are dispatched to the hall to create their decorations magical things happen when the children put their decoration on the tree. The decorations come alive, sprinkle magic glitter on the children and the song and dance begins. Cohesion is added to the play in the form of the 'Cutting and Sticking Song' which the children loved and the songs are cheerful and varied ranging from the 'Country and Western' style of the 'Animals Song and Dance' to the 'Rock and Roll' genre of the 'Shepherd's Song and Dance.' As the final song says......'The Magic Nativitree.........helps us see.........what Christmas means for you and me.'
A new and exciting take on the traditional Christmas Story with groups of children representing different colours associated with Christmas. The action begins with a calypso style song simply called 'Kaleidoscopes' where children dance with brightly coloured gymnastic ribbons. The Kaleidoscopes then introduce each colour connection in rhyme and the story unfolds from the song 'Pretty Little Lady Dressed in Blue' to 'Black Night, Black Sheep' and 'Colourful Kings' dressed in purple, orange and turquoise. The children loved this show and sang their hearts out in all the songs from the upbeat rhythmical numbers to the gentle lullabies. The simple script was easy to learn and helped the children understand the real meaning of Christmas.
