I drew this little soft winged beetle (Malthodes minimus - Malthodes minimus) for my class after I spotted it on some blossom in a tree, on my Rydal Water walk in the Lake District, Cumbria. We used it as part of our minibeasts of Britain lessons as we explored the importance of the food chain, types of food creatures eat, habitats they live in, and role of insects in the environment.
An augmented reality version of this page is available in the published book on Amazon. This will allow students to colour in the picture and then see it on their smartphone or tablet computer, along with further details from the National Curriculum.

A collection of photos from Capernwray dive centre in Carnforth, Lancashire. The disused quarry is now popular with swimmers (especially training for triathalon and English Channel swims) and scuba divers throughout the year, as well as having changing facilities and a restaurant.
Feel free to use these photos with your students as part of your geography lesson on the benefits of quarries as places for leisure and recreation.

A collection of photos of flames and fire that can be used with science lessons on the ingredients for a fire, for safety, and for energy topics.
Includes photos of my log fire at home, and photos of a camp fire at my family home in Latvia, where people like to jump over the fire on Jani's Festival or Liga Festival which takes place at the solstice. It is an age old custom and people believe that jumping over the fire will stop evil spirits casting spells on you, purification for the year ahead.

For hundreds of years, all across Britain, people have traditionally added coins to certain trees, in the belief that the tree spirits of the forest would bring them good luck. But be sure to never remove any coin from a tree, because this will bring a curse upon you!!
I will be putting together this collection of photos as I encounter money trees on my row around the coast of Great Britain. But one of the best places to find such a tree, is on the Coffin Route between Rydal Water and the village of Grasmere in the Lake District.
