This is a resource I produced for my HPA students on how to approach the Lord of the Flies section of the exam. There is a list of exam questions at the bottom that they can be practising with in class or at home.

This resource shows students a point made at different levels of the mark scheme. This is useful to get the students annotating for what both responses have done well with reference to the AQA mark schemes. The important thing is to fully understand what the ‘student’ has done to gain a level 6 response and how to replicate this in their own writing. This is really useful for those with the highest forecast grades.

This resource is useful for memory learning and covers a range of quotes from Lord of the Flies. Students can make games/tests out of them, you can allocate a key quote to a student and get them to recall it regularly.

This resource encourages students to apply everything they have learned about Jekyll and Hyde to these key quotations. This will allow them to engage fully with key quotes and ensure that they are achieving AO2 by thoroughly exploring and consolidating these quotes.

This lesson guides students towards accessing the highest bands of the mark scheme by introducing them to writing with a concept in mind. This works particularly well with HPA students, but is brilliant for stretching the MPA too.

This works over a series of lessons. It allows students to present what they have learned about the novel Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in a creative way. In presenting their ideas on key events, themes, characters back to the class they are revising and peer teaching. This works really well with HPA/MPA students.

Here is a ‘tick list’ aimed at LPA/MPA of how to approach the AQA Literature Paper 1. This is written for the Jekyll and Hyde and Romeo and Juliet texts, but can easily be adapted for other texts. This resource consists of useful reminders of how to approach each question that students can work through at their own pace. They can use this approach every time and can use it at home too.

Here are 4 weeks worth of starters/plenaries to help support memory learning of key ideas/context for Macbeth.

These two handouts help students to peer review one another’s written work. There is one for reading and one for writing. There is room for 3 students’ responses in a gallery feedback type activity. There are sentence starters included to help.

This useful handout can be stuck in to books as a useful reference for academic language and vocabulary. This is really useful in training students on how to upgrade their tone and language.

Here are a number of lessons that we use once per week with Y9 to familiarise students with how to approach poetry with AQA. The named poems can all be found online. All resources can be adapted for other year groups/other poems.
