I have been Head of RE, Pastoral Lead and Head of PSHE & Citizenship in my 19 year teaching career. I am currently Head of PSHE & Citizenship at a large secondary school 11-18. My shop includes: PSHE and Citizenship sessions, Assemblies, Tutor Time activities SMSC, Fundamental British Values and Religious Education. They are fully resourced RE or Citizenship lessons, worksheets or 15 minute assemblies/tutor time PSHE sessions suitable for 11-18 and some can also be used for younger audiences.

This is a 60-90 minute lesson about social action. It is in an RE & Citizenship scheme of work exploring different ways people help the community. It focuses on Christianity and the work of food banks and street pastors. This session can also help towards the AQA Religious Studies A GCSE in the Christian Practices paper but does not have any specific exam focus. It includes: Picture Analysis of a food bank The Parable of the Sheep & Goats Teachings of the Parable of the Sheep & Goats An introduction to street pastors 2 video clips about street pastors (downloaded so they will never disappear) An introduction to food banks 2 videos about food banks (downloaded so they will never disappear) An activity to design their own organisation combining street pastors and food banks True and false quiz for a plenary task Extension tasks with a discussion and extra video links This lesson is fully narrated although this can easily be changed by deleting the icon on each slide if you would prefer it not narrated. This session can easily be lengthened or shortened to last for a shorter or longer amount of time. Students reacted very well to this presentation. There are also lessons on Sewa, Hillsborough and the Birmingham Six in this Social Action unit.

This is a 60-90 minute lesson for RE, Citizenship, SMSC, FBV or PSHE. It covers what MPs do, why students should write to them and outlines how to write an effective letter. This lesson belonged to a topic of Protest and this ends the topic with students writing their own letter of protest to their MP about something they feel is important in their local area. Suggested topics are given, written and discussion tasks included, a youtube clip that is downloaded that will never disappear and a section on emotive language and why this is important in letters of protest to MPs. There is a handout that accompanies the lesson to show students a model letter and allow them to have the selection of emotive language features in front of them while they write the letter. You will need to change the school address and MP’s details in the letter and the powerpoint to make it totally relevant for your students. This contributes to Citizenship education and was originally an RE lesson which was very well received by both the MP and the students. It is suitable for KS3 - KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13) and was originally a Year 9 lesson in the topic of Protest.

This is a 60-90 minute narrated lesson about religious views on protest. It includes some downloaded video clips which will never disappear. It includes different religious quotes about protest and has activities based on Martin Niemoller’s poem, ‘Then they came for me’ and the question of whether we should protest for others. It explores how the Golden Rule of all religions can be used for views on protest and goes through how to answer a 12 mark GCSE answer on this topic - "Religious people should always protest about important issues. It includes discussion and written activities and is fully narrated. You can easily delete the icon on each slide if you do not want it narrated or want to change some of the more specific slides for homework etc. This was originally an a lesson for Year 9 in the topic of ‘Protest’ in Religious Education but is suitable for all secondary school pupils (Ages 11-18 KS3, KS4 and KS5). It can also be linked with the new RSHE curriculum, the PSHE curriculum or a whole school tutor time resource.

This lesson is to introduce the Philosophy Unit for Religious Studies OCR H573 or H173. It gives a good introduction into what Philosophy is, some key philosophers, important philosophical questions based on reality, discussion and written tasks and embedded videos. It includes the parts of the specification, an introduction to the topics covered and explores key elements of the course. You won’t need anything else to introduce the Philosophy unit at A Level. This was originally a Year 12 KS5 90 minute lesson but can easily be shortened or lengthened to be a 60 minute lesson to introduce Philosophy at KS3 or KS4.
