This is a whole A level lesson written for the new Edexcel (9.3.3) A level, but can easily be used for any other board (AQA, OCR, WJEC) on the control of the kidney by ADH. It contains a powerpoint which includes, questions, animations, fill in the gaps, a research exercise and starter as well as one word document worksheet which goes with one of the activities. Other activities can be printed out from the powerpoint itself. It includes activities on nephron structure, ADH, Hypothalamus and pituitary axes and diabetes insipidus. It also includes 17 marks of exam questions.
Written for an A level Biology lesson on how organisms can be adapted to save water in desert environments. I used this after teaching about the kidney as there is a required understanding of kidney function and nephrons.
I used it for the Edexcel B specification but could easily be used for any other A level specification.
Could also be adapted for use with KS3 and GCSE.
This contains battleship revision games for the following A level topics for any specification: Biological molecules, Cells, viruses and reproduction, classification, evolution, natural selection and biodiversity and exchange and transport. These correspond to the AS topics for the new Edexcel A level, but can be used for any specification; AQA, OCR, WJEC or Edexcel.
It includes almost 400 questions and their answers which are in excel format.
The following mini topics are included: cell transport, diffusion, osmosis, active transport, lungs, gas exchange in insects, humans and fish, gas exchange in plants, circulation, the heart, the cardiac cycle, coronary heart disease, tissue fluid, lymph, transport in plants, transpiration, translocation, bohr effect, blood clotting, classification, domain and kingdom system, evolution, natural selection, speciation, antibiotic resistance, biodiversity, ecosystems, eukaryotic cell structure, prokaryotic cell structure, virus types and replication, mitosis, mutations, asexual reproduction, meiosis, gametogenesis, plant reproduction, embryology, microscopes, drugs, water, nucleic acids, proteins, enzymes, carbohydrates and lipids
This is a revision game for the Exchange and transport topic of any A level Specification. It contains 100 questions with the answers and is played in the form of the traditional battleships game. The topics included are cell transport, diffusion, osmosis, active transport, lungs, gas exchange in insects, humans and fish, gas exchange in plants, circulation, the heart, the cardiac cycle, coronary heart disease, tissue fluid, lymph, transport in plants, transpiration, translocation, bohr effect and blood clotting . The answers are in an excel format. I recommend printing and laminating the game board.
This is a revision game for the Classification, evolution, natural selection and biodiversity topic of any A level Specification. It contains almost 100 questions with the answers and is played in the form of the traditional battleships game. The topics included are classification, domain and kingdom system, evolution, natural selection, speciation, antibiotic resistance, biodiversity and ecosystems. The answers are in an excel format. I recommend printing and laminating the game board.
This is a multi-page document for pupils to fill in their research on human evolution. It goes through multiple hominids and gives relevant research websites. There are many questions and sections on each hominid.
This is a revision game for the Cells, viruses and reproduction topic of any A level Specification. It contains 100 questions with the answers and is played in the form of the traditional battleships game. The topics included are eukaryotic cell structure, prokaryotic cell structure, virus types and replication, mitosis, mutations, asexual reproduction, meiosis, gametogenesis, plant reproduction, embryology, microscopes and drugs . The answers are in an excel format. I recommend printing and laminating the game board.
This is a revision game for the Biological molecules topic of any A level Specification. It contains 100 questions with the answers and is played in the form of the traditional battleships game. The topics included are water, nucleic acids, proteins, enzymes, carbohydrates and lipids. The answers are in an excel format. I recommend printing and laminating the game board.
An assessment for pupils to demonstrate their understanding of the movement of molecules and cell division topic of the new GCSE (9-1) Biology course. There are grade descriptors as well as a key terms box for pupils to use. Topics included: Diffusion, osmosis, active transport, mitosis, cell cycle, stem cells and differentiation.
A powerpoint containing starters which I use at the start of each lesson with my Year 13 classes from now until exams. They are meant to be quick and only take 5 minutes of the lesson but gets them recapping in front of you on a regular basis. I always have good feedback from the pupils when doing this.
This contains questions on biological molecules including; enzymes, proteins, water, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids.
A pupil focused activity on Salmonella food poisoning which gets pupils thinking and up and around a classroom.
Sheet 1 contains 7 questions on Salmonella food poisoning which give the pupil a 7 letter code. These 7 letters link to the posters PPT which should be printed and stuck up around the classroom. Each letter gives the order to visit the posters in which will help to answer the extended questions on Salmonella food poisoning on Sheet 2. There are letters on the PPT posters which are irrelevant and are to catch pupils out. Answers for Sheet 1 and 2 are included.
This can be used for the new GCSE (9-1) or A level AQA, but could easily be used for any exam board.
