SPAG Powerpoint for starters/short teaching sessions (3)
SPAG Powerpoint 2 (of 5)
A powerpoint comprising of 65 slides covering aspects of the SPAG curriculum, for example:
• Conditional sentences
• Homophones
• Nouns
• Extended noun phrases
• Speech punctuation
• Brackets
• Dashes
• Subordinating connectives
• Phrases
• Clauses
• Alliteration
• Similes
• Metaphors
Each topic includes a slide or two of teaching plus an activity slide based on the learning in that session (some, more complicated topics, run over a few days). The slides and tasks have been created for a short 15 minute SPAG session but could also be used as starters or in literacy lessons. At the end of each block of 4 topics is a quiz slide (which, if covered daily, would be a Friday session) which recaps the previous 4 topics covered.
This powerpoint has enough slides for 6 weeks of daily teaching (one topic per day). A further 2 Powerpoints will be available soon covering the other areas in the SPAG curriculum, including a final revision set at the end.
PLEASE NOTE: Some slides have been duplicated from Powerpoint 1 for revision purposes and the lower price reflects this.
Bundle
Word of the Day + Task x 3 (18 weeks)
Writing like a writer’ is a set of Powerpoint slides, each featuring a new word of the day. The purpose of this resource is to broaden the children’s vocabulary and is aimed at KS2/lower KS3.
The document displays the word, definition and example as well as a short writing task and in each Powerpoint there are 30 slides (enough for 18 weeks if used daily). The tasks are designed to be creative writing opportunities and so are very varied in theme! The word of the day does not necessarily ‘fit’ with the writing task, but as the children build up their vocabulary bank they should be able to use previous words to enhance their short piece of writing. This activity is designed to take about 10 minutes, and so can be used as a starter or daily activity during an allocated slot, e.g. register time.
The way I have used this in the past is:
introduce the word, children repeat it aloud a few times
explain the definition and read through the example
children write down the word and the meaning in a vocabulary book
children complete the writing task, trying to use the new word or one of the previous words.
