Intro to COASTS- Ideal for assessing independent learning ability. Diverse and lengthy tasks!

I created this for my students as a more engaging alternative to textbook activities. It introduces the coast, key vocab, types of waves, true/false quiz, and discusses pebble vs sans beaches using beaches in the UK. The tasks are extremely diverse and tackle a range of geography skills. Every task is differentiated with a challenge task and examples. Should be printed on A3 in colour and given 1 per pair. Will take at least one full hour, if not two! The second worksheet is matched to the video which is about the South Australian coastline and contains a series of questions matched to the video and the tasks slowly get more difficult, ending with a persuasive exercise about species management. -FULL LESSON Please review if you download!

I created this resource for my students to use whilst I was away. It introduces them to the TRF and contains 6 different tasks that are wide ranging and matched to different skills & abilities. This took my students two lessons to complete but could be used with high ability groups for one lesson/ can be used very flexibly. Ensure you print in colour and give 1 per pair. Extras needed: Blank world map Climate Graph for Brunei

'What is China's One Child Policy?'- Full history/explanations

This ppt and activities usually spread over two lessons so that the students have a better chance of understanding the complicated reasons the OCP was introduced and then can lead into the consequences of it. The storyboard activity worked really well as I said they would be copied and gives to the yr 11s to help them revise. You will need to provide a differentiated storyboard for lower ability/SEN students ( I can't find mine currently!) The only trouble with it is some students wanting to take a lot of time completing it. Usually I allow them to plan and start the first couple of boxes and then it must be completed in the first half of the second lesson, or they can complete for homework. I found the mystery online- it is very useful and it creates a lot of discussion. The post it note activity worked really well as a plenary to the second lesson as by this time the students had built their knowledge significantly and it can be drawn out and turned into a debate activity. I photocopy and use previous post its as examples for everyone to guide them and as an extension activity for HA students-to peer assess previous answers for SPaG and argument- depending on the student. The final slides I sometimes have up around the room printed on A3 for students who prefer to be a bit more active and those who need some extra facts for their storyboard/post its. I hope you enjoy :)

Chinese Panda Conservation- Geography Literacy based activity- fully SCAFFOLDED.

An independent entire lesson that I set as cover work. The students engage well with this activity and enjoy learning about the Panda’s and the vocabulary which is varied to challenge G+T students. There are 3 separate tasks, which have potential to be peer assessed and shared, the last task is arguing against a quote and with sentence starters success criteria. Please review if downloaded! Thanks!

I used this when teaching a BESD YR 6 class to get them interested in ICT. They absolutely loved learning abour cryptography and creating their own code. Some even used it throughout the term to send each other messages! Highly recommend using cryptography as a SEN ICT topic, lots of great youtube vids and easily linked to history curriculum and school treausure hunts. Please review if you can! Enjoy :)

SEN- Ancient Greece Topic work

I used these worksheets with my small SEN BESD group when introducing Ancient Greece. I used a carousel activity for them to gather facts and images for their fact file- which was immediately displayed and we watched a clip about ancient greek soliders and they added the labels (which are still on the word file) and completed the gap/extension tasks. More to come, need to find all the files!

KENYAN SWAHILI LANGUAGE GAME- teaching Kenya or anything related to the LION KING! SEN

(0)
I created this when the whole school were spending the day learning about Kenya and I wanted to introduce them to Swahili as the final part of the day was watching the Lion King. They LOVED using the bags to create weird and wonderful sentences that they could try to translate for each other and mix up as they pleased. It does require some prep as each table needs a bag or you could have one big bag with many more words and get student helpers to assist the picking! Please review if you download :)

SEN- LITERACY/PSHE/CITIZENSHIP- Law Debates

(0)
I designed this SoW for LAC SEN students with complex needs and challenging behaviour. I wanted to give them an opportunity to discuss relevant laws through a highly structured debate style lesson, where they take turns as mediators and judges each week and get given a side to debate for/against. Listening and impulse control must be demonstrated (by you!) throughout the lesson for the debate to be successful. Everyone must contribute, so it’s important to choose the roles beforehand and ensure your TAs/support staff understand how you want them to assist you. Please review if you download! Thanks :)

SEN literacy fruit based activity!- Introduce new fruits!

(0)
Every Friday at our LAC Secondary SEN school, we introduced 4 different fruits each week for students to try. They really enjoyed this activity and were amazed by how many different fruits they’d never seen before and even students who flat out refused to engage initially, were involved and trying new fruits by the end of the first 6 week run. This worksheet was given at the end of term and worked well as they wanted to compete with each other on how many fruits they could remember. Worksheet contains a gap fill with all the fruits and a drawing activity. We did the first few together and then they completed it independently. Please review if you download! Thanks :)

CREATIVE & ENGAGING- Maths Starter/ whole lesson- various abilities!

I created this resource for a KS5 Functional Skills maths lesson, but it could easily be used for various ages/abilities. I started by handing each student a real foreign note and getting them to guess where the note was from and then we went round the room and shared our notes and use the map on the worksheet to locate our currency. They really enjoyed this exercise and were well engaged. Then we went through each task with lots of reflection and discussion surrounding my adventures in those places, which again, helped them to stay on task and complete the calculations. They all reflected that this lesson helped to prepare them, if they ever travelled abroad and needed to know how much British currency they had. Please review if you download! Enjoy!

Utilising GAPMINDER-DOLLAR STREET SITE to introduce development topic for SEN KS3 students. Inclusive, engaging and with embedded key vocab and literacy/IT tasks. They really enjoyed using the website and I had great feedback from parents about the tasks facilitating interesting discussions about equality and contrasting living standards. I have left some answers in for you to review then delete in PURPLE. Could be used in school or independently at home. Enjoy!
