This is week one of a 6 week scheme (I will upload the subsequent weeks as I go).
This first week concentrates on the context and the opening of the novel.
Fully differentiated and editable with opportunities for extended writing. PPTs, writing frames and all resources included as well as a weekly quiz and spelling test.
A PPT that contains 4 slides.
Slide 1: a table that lists the year 8 units, the key themes explored and links to GCSE papers.
Slide 2: a table that lists the year 9 units, the key themes explored and links to GCSE papers.
Slide 3: A display of all of the literature set texts and units along with an explanation of the question and the name of the paper.
Slide 4: a breakdown of both papers with question forms and times.
These are used by my department on the front of exercise books and as posters around the school to constantly remind students of what they are studying and why.
They are easily adaptable in case you are studying different texts.
Please leave a review if you find this resource helpful (or not!) I always work to improve for my buyers.
Two hour-long lessons that focus on the internal and external conflict in the novel and contain extended writing tasks.
Fully differentiated with detailed learning objectives and outcomes.
A sheet of tasks that can be given at the start of the term and contains a homework task for every week.
Each task has a different ‘value’ based on difficulty and students are expected to reach a certain ‘value’ by the end of the term.
Great for encouraging student choice and accountability while ensuring meaningful homework.
A lesson that takes students through the comparative question, what it expects, what difficulties they might face and then guides them through how to answer the question.
Planning grid included along with a model paragraph and extended writing opportunity.
This lesson could easily be adapted to compare two different poems - please see this lesson as part of my power and conflict bundle if you would like the lessons leading up to this one rather than using it as a stand-alone.
A three lesson bundle on The Crucible - I will add more lessons as I complete the scheme and bundle them. This is aimed at Year 9.
An introduction to the context of the play, its characters and themes.
Beautifully presented and fully differentiated.
A quiz that includes A Christmas Carol, Power and Conflict Poetry and An Inspector Calls as well as some English general knoweldge!
30 slides of quizzing fun for GCSE students that can be used as starters throughout the year too!
Lesson rated as outstanding by Equalitas.
Focuses on the 'I want some more' scene from the novel and encourages students to analyse aspects of language and structure.
Fully differentiated activities and reading materials with lesson objectives.
A PPT that covers two lessons: a lecture on the purpose of the novella and a lesson in constructing a strong thesis.
A 5-question starter activity is included as well as opportunities for teacher modelling.
Two lessons designed to introduce students to the context of the novella.
Students cover racial segregation, The Great Depression and the life of the author and how this might have impacted his writing.
Fully differentiated with lesson objectives.
A simple to use literacy learning walk card (that can be fully edited to suit) that can be used to look at the effectiveness of whole-school literacy.
An accompanying spreadsheet is also provided (formula included) to collect and quantify data to see, very easily, whole-school areas for improvement.
A lesson that walks students through the demands of the question, how to plan a response and gives them a model student response.
A list of comparative connectives is included to encourage comparison based on theme.
A challenging and fully differentiated lesson on Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy used as an unseen poetry lesson with year 10.
Students are given differentiated activities from the very start (including differentiated versions of the poem) to ensure that all can access and all are challenged.
