This resource takes students back through the requirements of each text form. It reminds them of the formal language that they must use and it also includes five different tasks to complete to practice these forms. The activities are based on what the students may be going through on the run up to the exams.

This is a science based task that is aimed to engage students that prefer this subject to English. Sometimes these students may make the same errors in their work, such as not selecting relevant textual evidence to support their points, and this task attempts to engage them in to English and securing this skill, whilst still providing challenge for the more able. These more challenging questions do link to the new GCSE Language papers.

This worksheet is aimed at LA/MA students. It gives them a structure to use when analysing poetry from the anthology and also when comparing two poems. They can also use the MITSL structure when approaching an unseen poem. The main aims of these worksheets is to give LA/MA students a consistent structure to use to help them feel more comfortable when approaching this aspect of English Literature.

A short series of tasks that show students the importance of punctuation. This has been useful with GCSE students, particularly LA/MA, that need to be encouraged to proofread to maximise their marks on Language Section B. The tasks are designed to show them how punctuation impacts meaning and there are also some humorous examples to maximise engagement.

A task where students are grouped and given the opportunity to research a key contextual area and then they present this information back to the class. There are support slides included that can be printed off and placed with groups. These slides model the depth of information required for this GCSE text. The task would be much more suited to MA and HA groups.

Mother, any distance covered in small chunks. This resource is best suited to a lower ability class as the demands are increased throughout the powerpoint. There are short clear tasks that ask them to identify textual evidence, but also some tasks where they can begin to develop their own perspective on the poem rather than 'repeat what they have been told'. The content provided can be covered in one lesson, if you are struggling for time, but it is also clear enough for any uncompleted tasks to be set for homework by printing out the slide required.

35 'Word of the Week' put on to Powerpoint. Can be used during Tutor time or at the beginning of a lesson. States the word, a definition and an example. Could also be used as a short handwriting task.

This task shows students the impact of language and presentational features on the intended audience. The advert used has a lot to it, which makes it a good resource for a range of abilities.

This resource collection contains extracts from well known texts and encourage students to think carefully about their vocabulary choices. These resources are quite flexible so can be dropped into various existing schemes.

This resource pack contains three Gothic extracts from students' work that can be used in a variety of ways. I've found that asking students to read them and then rank them, in order of the most effective, starts some excellent discussions. Also included are two sheets that they can stick in their books and refer to throughout the year. One encourages them to expand their use of sensory related vocabulary and the other reminds them of different techniques they could use in their writing.

Cross curricular lesson that introduces students how to respond to texts, in this case the poem Dulce et Decorum est. Can be used as a stand alone skills lesson or embedded within a current scheme.

These tasks can be used as assessments or set as cover lessons for this text. They are based on the new specification GCSE exam tasks and structured as these questions are. All of the tasks can easily be embedded within a scheme and also provide cross curricular links with Science.

Six sheets that are based on the new English Language GCSE that can be used for KS3 and KS4. They focus on audience, purpose and SPaG, which will help reinforce to students what they should be proofreading for in their exam. These are designed to help embed the required skills for this course.

A lesson that makes links between English and History where students are encouraged to write a letter to an unknown soldier. Can be used as a stand alone lesson or within a scheme of work. It's a clear lesson for a non specialist to also use.

Four different tables that can be used for revision of this cluster. They consider themes, language, structure and making links between the poems. Four have been included to cater for different abilities and to also ensure maximum flexibility for teachers in the delivery of this course.

A scheme of learning that focuses on improving literacy. The scheme focuses on sentence structures, punctuation and vocabulary to match the stronger focus on SPaG in the new curriculum. This scheme is much more suited to LA/MA/intervention students rather than HA students. There are lots of visual cues to use as a springboard to writing and a quiz that ca be used at the start and the end of the scheme so that students can see the improvements they have made.

Thirty starter activities to help students practice the skill required for Paper 2 Section A. All the tasks are based on images, which makes these activities appropriate for starters, but challenging due to the lack of text provided. It will encourage students to focus on smaller pieces of text rather than selecting large quotes. These can be used in English and dropped into any scheme, but they could also be used as form activities for KS4 classes.

Reading starters based on the skills required for new spec GCSE English Language Paper 1 Section A. The starters focus on connotations using colours, structure of texts (openings of texts) and also how writers use language.
