GCSE English Language: Paper 1 Question 3
A helpful mnemonic to help students understand what structure is and what they can write about in their exam response. There is no extract included, which allows teachers to use something they are familiar with. It can also be easily embedded into a walking talking mock or practice exam feedback. There is a generic peer assessment at the end, which could be altered to specific levels easily.
New Spec GCSE English Language: Reading Starters
Reading starters based on the skills required for new spec GCSE English Language Paper 1 Section A. The starters focus on connotations using colours, structure of texts (openings of texts) and also how writers use language.
Walking Away - Interpretations
A worksheet designed to help students develop their interpretations as opposed to giving a single idea.
Descriptive Writing Task and Sentence Handouts
A descriptive writing task based on a scene from Atonement. There is also a resource which could be stuck into exercise books to support students in varying their sentence openings in descriptive writing. A handout has also been provided to show students the different types of sentenecs and how they can use them in their descriptive writing.
It would be best used in supporting students to learn the skills required for the new GCSE specification. It can be used as a stand alone lesson, embedded within a scheme or as a cover lesson. All of the instructions are on the activity sheet along with an image to act as a springboard for their response.
English Language: Writing to Describe
An eight lesson scheme to develop descriptive writing. More suitable for a middle or high ability set. This scheme covers AO5 and AO6. The scheme and all resources are provided.

Writing to Explain
Four writing to explain tasks that are a good introduction into this purpose. They centre around the student and their interests/lives. Peer assessments have been included for three of the tasks. They are easy to set up for cover lessons and engaging activities for students that can easily be incorporated into current lessons.
These were designed for KS3 students, however they have also been used for LA GCSE students to help them understand what writing to explain is.

GCSE English Literature: Romeo and Juliet Love Quotation Grid
This has been useful to me in getting students to focus on individual words within quotations. One example has been given, however you could complete other boxes within the grid to add another level of support. This could also be used for a revision task.
Adding Detail to Writing
Suitable for low to mid ability students. This resource aims to helps students increase the level of detail in their descriptive/narrative writing - suitable for KS3 (mid to higher ability) and KS4 (low to mid ability).
One lesson so would also be suitable for interventions.
New Spec A-Level AQA English Literature GCE Othello Practice Questions
Practice questions that have been structured like the exam on Othello. There are six in total, which can be dropped in to schemes of work, used as homework tasks or as assessments.
They look at various acts so are flexible to all schemes.
