Writing persuasive arguments planning

Three weeks planning (and many covering resources) for persuasive writing which is based around a letter to the PM persuading them that the practice of ‘Lions bred for hunting’ in Africa should be banned. This was used in Y6, however can be adapted for Y5/7. The class had drama on a Wednesday, so each week covers 4 lessons.

Reading Pupil Questionnaire and analysis

A reading questionnaire that as English Lead have used in my schools to assess the use and coverage of Reading for Pleasure in my school. It comes with an analysis (set to 30 per range, which just needs numbers to be inputted for Pie Charts to change). This was shared as an easy guide with SLT and for future provision to be set.

Y6 Leavers Assembly - Schooling Through Time 'Horrible History'

(0)
This is the script for a Y6 Leavers Assembly based on two children travelling through different eras from the past to find out what schooling was like. It has comical value, and even travels into the future, where schools are now on Mars, due to the mistakes of a certain world leader ignoring Global Warming. My class loved this script, and is based on 30 children in my class. However because there are many more roles, each child had 2+ roles - therefore it can be suitable for 1 or 2 form entry. Have fun with this script! We certainly did

This booklet can be used for revision, homework or even interventions. It contains a Reading section (fiction, non-fiction and poetry) which total 50 marks. It then contains a GPS section on some of the trickier topics. Then an Arithmetic test (20 marks), in line with the SATs test. Finally some Reasoning questions relating to the trickier topics. I used this as homework, then went through it as interventions.
Year 6 Daily Arithmetic Questions

Year 6 Daily Arithmetic Questions

(0)
I used these ‘6 a day’ questions at the start of every Maths lesson - there are 75 days worth, and the question become progressively harder. They cover everything which will appear in the Arithmetic KS2 test. It covers the four calculations, percentages and fractions (alongside BODMAS and squares, cubed numbers). My children in Y6 love working through these 6 a day, and after doing it for 2 years, I know it has great impact on their understanding, and also the SATs results!

Developing cohesion in writing pupil support mat

(0)
This is a support mat for children to use when writing (or as a display poster) which will help the children develop the cohesiveness of their writing. It states down strategies to use, examples of each and then the impact this has on the reader. This is aimed at KS2/3 children
Year 6 Arithmetic Board Game

Year 6 Arithmetic Board Game

This is ‘Arithmetic Dash’ a board game to support children to develop their arithmetic skills in a fun manner. My children love this game. They can play with 2-6 players and the game can be altered e.g. change the time the children get to answer a question. There is a complete game, with questions already on the board. There is also a blank game with numerous cards to pick from. Questions are all related to the KS2 Arithmetic test.

Year 6 Reading comprehension for classics

This PowerPoint leads the children through two extracts from classics (Lord of the Flies and Treasure Island) - there are questions linked to the texts (including vocabulary choices, inference, and summarising the text). Prompts then follow to allow children the chance to still work independently, with clues to the mark allocations. There then follows the mark scheme. This process is repeated for both extracts. There are also two ‘Going deeper’ questions. I have used this with my children in class with great success. Due to the complexity of the text, this can be used with older children.

Text Talk Display

(0)
This resource is a display I have used in my classroom (Y6) to encourage the children to write more formally - like a text rather than spoken language. It includes 4 examples (both fiction and non-fiction) showing the children how spoken language can change to ‘text’ language. This has worked incredibly well developing their writing for the KS2 SATs.

This resource includes 30 of the spellings from the Y5-6 spelling list, with fun prompts to help remember spelling rules/patterns. I have used it as a display with my children and they loved it. It could also be minimised to go in trays for those who need it.
Guided Reading questions for the whole of Skellig
sophieharris36sophieharris36

Guided Reading questions for the whole of Skellig

(0)
This resource includes questions for the whole of the book ‘Skellig’ - I have used these questions in Guided and Shared Reading, homework and intervention groups. As the chapters are quite short, there are on average 4-6 questions per chapter (obviously some have more). Answers will vary based on the evidence a child provides, therefore this only includes questions.
Year 6 Leavers Assembly - Prison Break

Year 6 Leavers Assembly - Prison Break

(2)
This assembly script is designed for Y6 leavers - focusing on being locked in ‘primary jail’ for various crimes and needed to perform tasks to escape to secondary school. Each child has committed a crime (e.g. crimes against handwriting/dad dancing etc). one child from each task escapes until they join a group at the end, who perform a dance - therefore when adapting to suit your class, you may need to change the crimes or order of children. It could be adapted to suit any transition year. Our class thoroughly enjoyed this play.

Guided Reading Y6+ using Mastery approach SoW

This resource includes 6 weeks planning for Guided Reading. For each week, it allows for a test per week (one lesson), working through the test (one lesson) and three days of whole class shared reading. This process follows the Mastery approach for whole class, using support for those who need it, with greater depth questions for those moving on. It follows 2 weeks on newspapers (using First News) and 4 weeks using Kensuke's Kingdom. There is a presentation for each day, using Activinspire (this can be downloaded for free by simply searching on Google, if you do not have it). Each presentation begins with an extract and a 'general' question to discuss and answer. Followed by support questions and then greater depth thinking. I have used this with my Y6 and the progress by all has been remarkable.
