This fully editable letter outlines the importance of Component 2 preparatory work (GCSE and A level Art) to parents and asks for their support in encouraging their child to progress their work over the Easter holiday. Sending it out to parents before the Easter break might just help keep students motivated whilst we are not there to nag them!

GCSE Art students will soon be undertaking their 10 hour art exam. This printable handout provides prompts which encourage students to consider how they have developed their ideas and how they have linked them to observations, the work of artists, media experimentation and use of techniques. It also encourages students to think carefully about what they still need to do before the exam day and what materials and prepping is needed before exam time starts. Each prompt provides space for students to write down their thoughts. This 6 page document can then be stuck into their sketchbooks to provide further evidence to the visiting moderator that there is a clear “creative journey” and that clear links have also been made to the four Assessment Objectives. This handout has been used effectively in an Ofsted Outstanding Art department.

An over busy brain makes it difficult to concentrate on tasks and the feelings associated with anxiety can cause distress and further anxiety. Recent research suggests that activities which focus the mind without being overly taxing can help break the cycle of worry and anxiety and can help calm the busy mind. One such activity is colouring. This resource provides 40 original hand drawn kaleidoscopic images. The repetitive nature of the patterns is intentional, encouraging the individual to settle into a calming routine. Drawings range in complexity, making it a suitable resource for all age groups, including adults. I hope that enjoyment and a sense of calm at the end of term can be found by using this resource.
