AQA English Language P2: Section B (using A Christmas Carol)

(0)
A series of lessons designed to make sure students have a clear understanding of the “basics” and the “developed” skills and techniques required for EACH of the possible text types they could meet in Section B of the English Language Paper 2 exam. Because my lot were taught A Christmas Carol (and I was trying to kill two birds with one stone by revising this at the same time…), the tasks are all focused on writing within the world of Scrooge. To that end, they may require some editing on the part of the user - hence the reduced price.

KS3: Introduction to KS3 Reading skills - Harry Potter focused

An introductory unit suitable for Year 7 students - I taught it to top and bottom set (with differentiation) classes. It is designed to get kids using the basic PEE style structure to create a reading assessment-worthy response. I don't include all of the extracts I used - I photocopied straight from the texts in all honesty - but this is more than enough to get going. Hope you find this useful.

AQA English Literature Paper 2 Bundle: Modern Texts and Poetry (version 2)

5 Resources
Three complete units of work that go through the teaching of An Inspector Calls, all 15 of the Conflict and Power poems AND a selection of Unseen Poems. I've included a version of the poetry anthology I've created that lends itself to annotating and revising better than the AQA version too - bit of a beast that. Also, you will find attached a spreadsheet that allows you to track the scores for all of these components.

AQA English Language Paper 1 focused writing tasks

A couple of lessons that focus on improving creative writing skills. I allude to tasks that have already been completed by the students - you can easily edit these to reflect your own tasks. Particularly pleased with the descriptive writing task as it got a bunch of lads who don’t “do” creative writing to talk about their feelings.

AQA English Language Paper 1 Section A Talking Mock Exam

(0)
A talking mock lesson (two hours long) with strategies on the slides for the students to refer to and time limits identified. The idea is that prior to each question, you are to remind students of how to answer the question. The expectation is that the class will have attempted a Paper 1 Section A beforehand - this is the lesson where they try and beat their previous scores. A quick word of warning: the exam paper is available elsewhere in my shop.

This is a collection of free and paid resources - simply put, every single SoW and mini-unit I have ever created for Key Stage 3. Enough in here to significantly add to a KS3 curriculum for a year group or two.

AQA A-Level English Language and Literature: Othello - Lesson 1

A reintroduction lesson that should be taught with the understanding that the students have read the text beforehand. Designed as an entry point into year 13; ideal for new teachers looking to get the measure of a new class (as in my case). I found this lesson particularly useful when combined with FAR marking the material surrounding the quotations. You should view this as a starting point - future lessons will get much more specific.

AQA A-Level English Language and Literature: Othello - Lesson 2 (Soliloquies)

My second lesson. Here, I focus almost entirely on ACT 2 SCENE 1 and Iago's soliloquies therein. The notes element of the power point pulls a lot of thinking together from across a lot of sources - you'll need these notes to flesh out the tasks. I tie it up with an exam style question at the end focusing on what we can infer about attitudes to women. Quite pleased with how this looks and how it goes.

These resources assume prior knowledge on the part of the students - they will have covered the greater majority of the texts before hand. The lessons go back and fill in the gaps. I try a few different things here in terms of approach. The "Mike and Sophia" extract guide is a guided annotation lesson; I'd be interested to see how classes respond to this.

KS3: SPaG Understanding a Text Lessons (Focusing on John Steinbeck)

Designed to be taught in support of a Year 9 class doing a GCSE-style task on Of Mice and Men. These powerpoints make good activities as part of a lesson, or they can be printed off as individual worksheets. The worksheet element contains a RAG rating system and some generic targets, suited for peer or self assessment.
