This is the story of Yeti, a small puppy, looking for his home. This is a great activity for primary learners, ideally KS1 or KS2. There are a number of different activities and materials for you to use in this lesson. This lesson could be taught over 40,50,60 or 70 minutes depending on how many of the activities you want to complete. The first activity is a warm up vocabulary activity. (5 mins). The next activity is an odd one out game looking at different animals whom live in hot and cold places and a hidden picture game. (5 mins). Then students will look in detail at deserts of the world and where they are located as well as some interesting facts about deserts. (5-10 mins). Students will then look at both hot and cold desert animals, looking at ideas such as the food chain etc. (5-10 mins). There is then a practical activity for students to color and label a world map of deserts and land. (15-20 mins). Then the teacher can ask students the review questions to help them recap learning. (5-10 mins). Finally, students can play a writing relay game in teams. This a fun way to recap and use the vocabulary studied in the lesson. (10-15 mins).

This is a simple and fun game for students and teachers to play to ask and answer questions about experiences. This can easily be modified and adapted as you see fit. Rules: Take turns to ask each other ‘Have you ever?’ You have to answer ‘yes I have’ to each question You will ask you questions to check if you are lying or telling the truth If you guess correctly, you get 1 point! This lesson is called Amazing Animals, with lots of discussion, vocabulary and activities for students to complete. The lesson can be broken down over an hour, or easily extended into two lessons: Warm Up - The teacher can ask students the question prompts about animals to generate ideas and understanding (10-15 mins). Traits - Goes into detail about traits of animals and why these are useful for their survival. (5-10 mins). Group Discussion - Students then go into groups to discuss the questions and share their ideas. They can then see some strange/unusual animals that exist to help with engagement. (15-20 mins). Make your Own Animals - Students can now use the previous activities to make their own animal, using the vocabulary and ideas learned in class so far. (10-15 mins) Animal Idioms - Here students can learn more about some common animal idioms used in everyday English, such as ‘The lions share’ etc. Game (Extension) - Bring me game. Full lesson on personality with 4 personality tests Here is a great fun lesson for KS1/KS2 and ESL learners all about personality. Students can learn the different personality words and adjectives for description, complete a quiz/game and then write down the answers for each of the 4 personality tests. They can then get the results of each test to find out the true meaning of each test! This is a lot of fun and has gone done well with many different student groups. Catchphrase PPT Game Here is a nice, simple fun activity for ESL/English learners, especially younger ones. Students have to identify the images and put them together to make a word. This is very similar to the UK TV Show Catchphrase. Students can either answer verbally, write them down on whiteboards, or on paper. A nice time filler for 10-15 minutes at the start of a lesson. **FULL WORLD FOOD LESSON WITH ACTIVITES AND GAMES ** Here is a FULL lesson on World food, where students can take a journey all over the world learning about different foods. Throughout the lesson, there are puzzles, quizzes and questions for students to answer. Students can either answer these questions verbally or can write them down on paper. There are also some review activities throughout to help check for comprehension and understanding. Hopefully you enjoy it as much as my students did!

Here is a simple and fun ESL/English game called Longest Word. Ideal for KS1/ESL learners. Students need to try to come up with the longest word using the prompts on the slides. There are 3 different levels of difficultly. You can also easily swap out, edit or duplicate slides to add your own levels to each one. Instructions are added to each slide so it is easy to follow for most levels of learners.

Spelling Challenge Game for KS1 & ESL: This is a fun and simple spelling challenge game for younger English learners. Students can split into teams or groups and work together or individually to solve the problems. The slides are in an easy format so you can easily edit them if needed.

Here is an autobiographies theme for KS2 and KS3. This would be particularly useful for lower level learners and starts with the basics before building up over the 6 lessons. All materials are also provided, which include students speaking and listening activities, independent activities for students and focused writing activities. There is also some reference to Boy, by Roald Dahl, which is also included for your reference.

This Scheme includes 8-10 Lessons on Romeo and Juliet, looking at a range of themes within the play, and breaking down the play scene by scene, while also comparing both the modern and traditional versions of the play. There are also lessons helping to revise key quotes and key scenes, as well as character timelines, plot activities and differentiated worksheets/cheat sheets to help learners, which can be adapted depending on the ability of your classes. These lessons are ideal for KS3 and KS4 for comprehension, first teach and revision purposes and can be adapted as needed.

This pack also includes a wide range of extra resources for students, including personification tasks, social and historical context tasks and analysis of the poem. This lesson is suitable for KS3/KS4 students who have studied or are studying Conflict Poetry, either as a review, an introduction, or for comparison with other conflict poems.

Here is a full 2-3 lesson pack for Conflict Poetry, looking in detail at Belfast Confetti, by Ciaran Carson. This lesson looks at language and context and how they work together in the poem. Copies of the poem, comparison activities, handouts, vocabulary focus and writing activities are also included. There is also handouts with containing a comparison with Bayonet Charge, social and historical context of the poem as well as a look at tone and structure in the poem, This is a great lesson to use with both KS3 and KS4 students and can be easily differentiated as required.

Here is a fantastic scheme of work for summarizing, checking and reviewing the story of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Each lesson looks at each Chapter in detail, recounting key scenes, images, vocabulary and contains lots of speaking, writing and discussion tasks for students. This review could be either combined with other schemes, used at the end as a review, or used alongside the book as there is enough for material for at least (8-10) lessons. This scheme worked well with mixed ability KS3 learners in Years 8 and 9, and was also used as exam/assessment review practice for KS4 students. However, activities can be easily changed and differentiated as required.

Here is a full 15+ lesson scheme of work for the book KES, by Barry Hines. This scheme of work has a huge range of activities, each with their own aims and lesson objectives, 2-3 activities, a starter (Bell Tasks) and a plenary. This has been successful with KS3 learners, Year 8/9 and as a review for KS4, Year 10 students. There are also various links to cultural context, historical links and activities to connect with the story of KES throughout. This scheme can be taught as an introduction to the story, or can be read alongside the story or the film. Each lesson is timed at around 50-55 minutes, but can be changed/adapted as required.

Here is a 3 full lesson pack for the poem of The Emigree, by Carol Rumens. There is a focus on the word ‘emigree’ followed by a focus on the poet, as well as key messages in the poem. The second and third lessons focus on techniques and imagery for the poem as well some in depth analysis of the key techniques and subject terminology. There are also Independent Writing tasks as well as peer writing tasks for students to complete as extended activities.
