These activities are in the form of 3 spreadsheet pages. The first one is an Income Statement, the second an appropriation account and the third are blank ledger accounts. Cut up the Income Statement into sections for the learners to complete. Depending on their level, these can be cut into individual lines or chunked together. Cut up the appropriation statement too. These can be given to individuals or groups to put together in order. Once completed, they can then complete the capital accounts for the partners. A fun activity which should take between 10 and 30 minutes depending on the level of learners. Ideal for AAT Level 3.

Personal Abilities to Run a Business - Workbook and Tutor Notes

This is a workbook of 6 pages to be used in conjunction with other activities over a whole day of a training course or similar. It is aimed at those considering starting a business or young people thinking of this as just an option. The resource is a 6 page workbook and accompanying tutor version workbook with some extra points of note and examples of how to encourage the learners. I have aimed this particular style of workbook to young apprentices and adults alike and it seems to work well with both, albeit with differing results and feedback.

This is a great starter activity or a good ice-breaker for a new class. Answers are included, but two would need to be adjusted if and when facts change. It is good to put a time limit on this one, but also to allow learners to search some of the answers on the computer or their phones.

Group activity for learners to practice ledger accounts, DEAD CLIC and a TB, all in a fun group way.

This resource is designed as a group activity, but could also be used for individual learning. It enables learners to draw on each other’s knowledge to complete the tasks. It works particularly well when split up into individual tasks and passed around the group one by one. Then at the end each person can balance one ledger account and the whole list can be pulled together as a group, whiteboard activity for the trial balance. It encompasses group activity, reading and understanding, maths and brings the group together at the end. Descriptions of each transaction are included as well as the titles for the ledger accounts and blank ledgers. To stretch the learners, some ‘red herring’ ledger accounts could be added and possibly some adjustments to the TB to turn it into an ETB.
