I made these bits for the story Vendetta by Guy de Maupassant literature which is useful for lower GCSE groups- hope they are useful.
Write an essay which answers the question; does the story ‘Vendetta’ by Guy de Maupassant show that revenge is justified (right)?
As we all know (as with all mark schemes) the AQA GCSE English Literature mark scheme is far from user friendly for students. This resource is a very detailed breakdown of the requirements for Band 6 on the poetry comparison question- it tells students exactly what they need to do for each of the six criteria using easily understandable language. It contains descriptors for the absolute top grade so that the students can easily get the sense of what an A* essay on poetry requires. Naturally this means the resource is aimed at middle to high ability students.
Personally I use a traffic light system with these grids (green/ amber/ red dots next to each statement) but you may just want to highlight and you can adjust these to your own school's marking policy easily.
Suitable for any assessed poetry work and will enable you to save a lot of time and stress as you won't need to write exhaustive comments and/ or can allow students to self assess. I have had excellent feedback on this so far and hope you find it as useful as I do.
Please do browse my other resources and contact me directly with any queries.
Happy marking :)

Various activities on Titus Andronicus. I read this play at uni and LOVED it. It is certainly Shakespeare’s most violent and perhaps also most comical play, and has been left behind with teachers overwhelmed by Romeo and Juliet etc etc. If you want to do something DIFFERENT this play has much to offer both KS3 students in terms of Shakespearean characterization and language especially visual imagery (see death of Lavinia). Also has some of the most memorable speeches in Shakespeare (see the ultimate villain; Aaron’s speech before his execution; when asked whether he is sorry, he says he is only sorry he did not do a thousand more crimes and goes on to list the most incredible horrific and darkly humourous crimes). Boys particularly love this play. I haven't been able to teach it in ages- I actually did it with a top set year 8 class which raised a few eyebrows!

This will be useful for: students to get through whole narrative quickly , learn key quotes and understand Scrooge's character. Designed for teachers very short on time. Great way for lower ability reluctant students to understand the text.
Totally self-contained work book to teach this novella- this work can be completed even if you don’t have the actual text and no other resources are needed.
Students work through a series of tasks which generates a GCSE essay which can then be typed up- great for teaching skills and revision. This is an ideal work book for weaker students at Key Stage 4, or for more able younger students. Also, fantastic if you are short on time.
Focus: How does Scrooge change throughout the novel?
Task One useful link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unKuZ2wlNdw I use the JIM CARREY film version to support this task: GREAT FILM TO USE AS MINUTES OF FILM LARGELY CORRESPOND WITH THE PAGE NUMBERS IN THE WORDSWORTH CLASSICS EDITION and this pack contains a guide to using the film with the book (including time and page references).
