Butterfly Unit ~ Close Reading ~ Text Dependent Questions : We have developed this Common Core aligned complete Butterfly Unit with CLOSE Reading passages, text dependent questions, and essential questions that contains everything needed to teach a rigorous unit on butterflies. Four original CLOSE Reading nonfiction passages were created to help teach your students about butterflies. CLOSE reading instructions and anchor charts are included to help you incorporate this skill into your teaching. There are text dependent questions aligned with each passage, a set of vocabulary cards with definitions to accompany each nonfiction text, a research report, Common Core Essential Questions, performance tasks, and RAFTS. These research reports were developed to align with the new Common Core Anchor Standards, Reading and Foundation Skills for Informational Text and Writing for ELA History/ Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects; “Students will write informative / explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content.” These research reports were created in support of these standards to create, develop, write, edit, illustrate, present, and assess your students’ Dinosaur and Ocean Animal research report. These reports (or performance tasks) are also designed to not only have your students learn and explain the new information, but answer some higher level thinking questions (Common Core Essential Questions) to apply the knowledge they have learned. We have developed this Common Core aligned complete Earthquake Unit with CLOSE Reading passages, research report, text dependent questions, and essential questions that contains everything needed to teach a rigorous unit on earthquakes. Original CLOSE Reading nonfiction passages were created to help teach your students about earthquakes. CLOSE reading instructions and an anchor chart are included to help you incorporate this skill into your teaching. There are text dependent questions aligned with each passage, a set of vocabulary cards with definitions to accompany each nonfiction text, a research report, Common Core Essential Questions, performance tasks, and RAFTS.
