This is a PowerPoint that I made for an observation. It has several different tasks including a differentiated ‘Think-Pair-Share’ task. It also has a modelled PEEL paragraph for the students to observe before they try their own PEEL paragraph while following each step.

This lesson was for a Year 9 class but can be used for any KS3 class for students to think about their future. The lesson is cross-curricular as it asks students to think of their Option Choices for Year 10 and what job they would like to do in the future. This lesson is after another lesson entitled “Who are You?” and is available too as a bundle. The main task is a small article with a comprehension in relation the the question: What would you like to do when you grow up? Before studying Benjamin Zephaniah’s poem ‘Good Hope’, it is important to get a sense of what the students believe in. In the poem, Zephaniah repeats the phrase ‘I believe’ and this lesson is an opportunity for students to think about what they strongly believe in. This can be part of a wider writing project or as a way of getting students prepared for some of the topics in Zephaniah’s poem. The PowerPoint asks students questions to give them more ideas before they write on a planning sheet for what they believe in entitled ‘I Believe’. This resource includes the PowerPoint, Planning Sheet and Lesson Plan.

In this PowerPoint students start by giving their opinion of Fagin from what they have read in the text before reading the ending of the novel. The extracts focus on Oliver and Fagin’s conversation while Fagin is in prison. The students work in pairs with differentiated sheets and answer questions on the extract. These are also included. The end of this PowerPoint then asks the students if their opinion of Fagin has changed after close analysis of the extract. The main aim of this class is for students to build a sense of empathy for Fagin and come to the realisation that Bill Sykes is the real villain in this story.

This resource is part of a lesson I had for an inspection where we focused on Dickens’ portrayal of Fagin. This extracts focuses on Fagin’s final scene. This exercise can be done in pairs or individually. It is also differentiated to higher and lower to allow all students to access it. Students first read the extract and then answer the questions on the sheet.

An observation lesson for a low-set year 7 class outlining the differences between latitude and longitude through visual representation. The lesson finishes with a plenary quiz that students can do in their books or mini-whiteboards.

The poem is broken-down into small parts. With each slide, it gives a detailed meaning and poses questions to the class.

A PowerPoint presentation that analyses Bertie and Lionel's relationship in The Kings Speech. There are links to two particular scenes showing the development of the relationship embedded in the PowerPoint which are used for students to analyse. Students are then asked to work in pairs to create a timeline of this relationship. Students have clear aims from the start and deep analysis of the relationship is explored using questioning, visual prompts, pair and individual work.

This lesson analyses the poetic techniques used withing Singh Song. The lesson focuses on word play, tone and the context of the poet amongst others. It also asks students to take ownership and analyse the poem and asks students several questions throughout.

This lesson covers all of Act 1 Scene 3 where both Macbeth and Banquo meet the Three Witches. The onus of this lesson is to show students the start of Macbeth’s ambition. Students are asked to ‘put themselves in the shoes’ of both Macbeth and Banquo. They then answer a series of questions before analysing small extracts that show Macbeth’s internal struggle and also ambition.

This PowerPoint shows students the juxtapositioning of both King Duncan and Lady Macbeth in comparison to how a king and a woman should be viewed in society. Through a series of tasks that get students thinking of each character, only to find Shakespeare portrays them in a different way. This allows students to understand why both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth deceived King Duncan.

This lesson is for a Year 8 lower ability group for the ‘Redevelopment’ section. The lesson begins by asking students their prior knowledge of a HIC and LIC. There is a gap fill exercise, mind-map activity followed by a video where students extend their mind-mapping. Lesson plan included.

This lesson is in relation to food insecurity in Africa. There are several exercises within the PowerPoint that students uncover the various factors such as weather, government policy and location which leads to food insecurity.

This is a revision lesson of Elizabeth Bishop’s ‘The Fish’ and ‘The Prodigal Son’. This analyzes the theme of nature, imagery and also other poetic techniques from both poems. It also gives a small background of Bishop.

This PowerPoint goes through dramatic techniques in Hamlet. It analyzes many techniques such as imagery, word play, soliloquies amongst others.

This PowerPoint is structured with a ‘Do Now’ which recalls students prior knowledge from poetic devices and other questions. It then gives background to the poet before getting students to think about the title and context. The students are then asked to write what the main themes of the poem are. There is a hinge question which leads to a debate as all answers are similar but have minor differences to show what a dramatic monologue is.

This lesson can be done at the beginning of ‘Resources’ to give students an idea of the three essential resources: Food, water and energy. This also gives them freedom in what way they wish to approach it with a mind-mapping exercises using extended reading (not included because of copyright). It then refers it to how these three essential resources impact HIC’s and LIC’s.
