This assembly lasts about 30 minutes (but can be cut down to 20) and it examines the conflict between freedom to (civil liberties) and freedom from (human rights) which has been associated with recent COVID legislation. It is delivered through clips of news reports; facts; consequences and questions in 4 specific areas: Protecting the elderly and vulnerable through lockdowns School closures Business closures Vaccines It considers the short; medium and long term consequences and asks students to vote at the end - HUMAN RIGHTS OR CIVIL LIBERTIES? Good for all ages, but very suitable for extending the thinking of children in key stage 3 and older key stage 2.

This assembly was designed to demonstrate the significance of Bastille Day as a French holiday. It highlights the celebrations that take place in France every year on the 14th July, and links them to the storming of the Bastille and the importance of the French Revolution. This contains images; clips and explanations, and would take about 30 minutes to present, but some slides could be omitted if time is tight. It could also be used as an introduction to a lesson on the French Revolution.

It is a fun interactive assembly which tells the story of the Gunpowder Plot and then involves a fun quiz to test recall and to get the children involved in the story. This assembly involves starts with the story of the origins and development of Halloween. It then develops with a quiz testing children’s listening and comprehension skills, and ends with some advice about keeping safe on Halloween night, and being respectful when trick or treating. There are twenty black/orange slides which create the mood, and lots of scary themed pictures. The assembly lasts about 20 minutes but can be extended to half an hour if necessary.
